Alchemy 101, and still the only 20 thread you need to read.

Got loaded today, with the wrong product but dodged a bullet when they realized it was really "wrong" it just beloved on one of the other trucks.

Four hours in the rack, and and hour and a half later I'm loaded and rolling north.

I opted NOT to go back toward Chicago through West by God Virginia and instead went across 40 through the Gorge.

My apologies to the 39374 trucks backed up behind my slow ass creeping through there...

Wisconsin.

Headed back to the yard with a mostly empty Peroxide trailer.

Had a Peroxide delivery in Cleveland on Saturday at Clean Harbors.

DID YOU KNOW...basically EVERY friggin interstate inside the 480 in Cleveland is HazMat Prohibited?

Yeah, there's a pucker factor for ya. BOL with the address on it or not, I don't wanna be a a Non Haz route with Haz, period.

Besides, what are they afraid of my peroxide setting the Cuyahoga river on fire AGAIN? (look it up, younguns, it happened)

Anyway, I had the middle of the week off last week, so while I'm at my sons flag football game, my dispatcher is texting me my dispatch.

"Peroxide tomorrow, to Ohio. Deliver Saturday by 10am"

"Okay, where in Ohio, makes a difference on departure time."

"Cincinnati. Delivers to Clean Harbors."

"Ok, I'll be at the yard at 8am."

I get to the yard Friday morning at 8. Loads loaded, but not final scaled, or tested after being trans-loaded into our trailer from the rail car. Local drivers dad died last night, and he's not in. Judging by how old the local scale driver is, his dad must have been @Blood 's age. Holy crap.

Paperworks not ready, etc.

So I get the paperwork, scale the load myself using one of the day cabs (the net weight is really the only number needing to be accurate anyway, so when I hook my truck to this trailer, it's still all good) and the address on the BOL says...

2900 Rockerfeller Ave
CLEVELAND, OH.

Not exactly Cincinnati, but at last its the same state.

Jesus Christ this guy...

Anyway, I set out, and bust ass on a Friday through Milwaukee and Chicago, and park outside the customer in Cleveland. Not Cincy. Take my 10 right there in their "Parking lot that they always park trucks in" - which is a dirt pulloff. I go through the gate about 830am local time, and start delivering into their tank.

I BARELY squeeze the entire load into this tank.

In fact, at one point I stopped the unload, and had a guy come look at it to see if the remaining 200 gallons or so was going to fit.

He says, "Yeah, it should fit, but that's why I wanted this stuff between 10 and noon. Im using it inside, and planned on having just enough room for your 2200 gallons around 10 -11am."

"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I was told several times, 10am delivery MAX. I figured since it was Saturday you guys had limited hours, and that kinda made sense to me when my dispatcher told me that."

"Naaah, man, I sent emails and all kinds of shit. All week back and forth. 10-12noon is when I wanted this."

"Un fucking believable, this guy is."

At that point, I realized I'd pretty much totally lost it, and was being as profane as my natural self on customer property. I paused, recovered, apologized, and we finished the unload.

I could have taken my 10 out on the Green Stamp, had a nice 4.00 cup of starbucks to enjoy on the way in, but no. Mr. Stupendous strikes again.

Missourah. Or however @Blood pronounces it.

Again, with the middle of the week off, and running the weekend.

So, I left the yard yesterday about noon, and delivered a split load to the City of Wichita.

"Oh, you can kick that off right away in the morning, then get back here and run a Quinnesec for Saturday night!"

"It's not going to be "right away in the morning". It's 800 miles to there from here. "

"You sure?"

"Just a guess. Run the mileage from Appleton to Wichita. I'm willing to bet it's at least 800 miles. It's already 11am and I'm not near leaving yet. Loads not even loaded."

Blank stare.

I ran it on my phone. It was about 794...give or take.

"Yeah, let's play it by ear, that's a 1600 mile turn, plus the time involved with the split load."

"Oh, yeah, okay, so....you think you can do that?"

"In the old days, yes. Lets play it by ear."

Thats my nicest way of saying...

GOOD LORD YOU MORON, YOU CAN'T GET YOUR 8 HOUR A DAY HEROES TO RUN SATURDAY NIGHT NOW IT'S UP TO ME, AND I'M 1000 MILES FROM QUINNESEC BUT YOU ALREADY GOT ME UP THERE AND I HAVEN'T EVEN LEFT APPLETON TO GO TO WICHITA YET...

17 days.

SEVENTEEN MOTHERFUCKING DAYS.

It's a technicality but economy of motion and bandwidth will be encouraged at the compound.
We have to manage resources in the most efficient manner possible.

You can make bombs from cigarette butts & used beer, right?
:)

We got bandwith??

Wait...whose our IT guy?!

@Hammer166 ??

Hes more of a nerd engineer, and he and @Duck could argue all day on our windmill...

Okay, I'm gonna do a roll call on the compound according to skills.

Tomorrow.

Sometime.

Maybe.

I dunno...
@Hammer166 plays it pretty close to the vest.
He probably has his own compound that nobody else knows about.
He should probably be confined to quarters with a pack of yappy guarddogs around the perimiter and monitered closely.

How would you make a solar powered crock pot?

I just googled it & all I'm seeing is PV panels electrically powering a heating element in a regular electric crock pot.

:bonk:

Efficiency, dude. The sun is a direct source of heat. Why in the hell would you use (relatively) inefficient technology to convert it to electricity, just to use relatively inefficient technology to convert it back to heat?

Ain't someone ever made a crock pot based on the amazingly simple solar oven concept?

And then made it lightweight and compact enough for camping? :dunno:

Indiana.

I told him 2 weeks ago I needed to be home Friday afternoon and Saturday.

So he has me down here, and when I get this hot 220 degree wax off, I have to head to Lansing to wash it out right away.

Then he says he's gonna try to load me after that and I should be able to make it home Friday night or Saturday morning.

Not sure how either of those fit the description of Friday afternoon, but instead of breaking a chair over his head, I simply drove home in the pickup and came back the next morning.

Also, with nothing going on, I should have been able to wash out my non haz load up in Wausau, but nope. All the way back to Appleton from Grand Rapids, MN...then sit around for more than 24 hours...which is why I went home.

I doubt I'm making it home even Friday night, and if I miss my thing Saturday I'm seriously considering pulling the plug a week early.

Wife says not to though, because we need as much money coming in as we can l, because of the tiny checks I got in July and August that were riddled with payroll "errors".

Oh, did I not mention those??
