air compressor

my air compressor went out Early Thursday.I called Cat,they wanted 2200 for theirs....since I had a bendix on there they couldn`t take the old one.I called truck pro and got a Bendix for a little less than 500
took the old one back and got my 900 core charge back..

it is working better now,and I found a leaky quick release valve,replaced it...4 small air leaks,fixed them....still got a problem..got my bottle of soapy water and so far,haven`t found it...going to check the air bags tomorrow...also,I am going to check my line from my compresser to my air dryer to see if it is clogged up..almost impossible to unhook from the top of the tranny where those 2 hoses are hooked together...I suspect there is a small obstruction in one line.A kink was in one...so....we`ll see tomorrow...maybe
clogged air lines,don`t know where to start except at the air compressor and go down stream..but I`ll start somewhere and see where it leads me.

both drain cocks on my air tanks was leaking,I ordered 2 and should be in this week
truck is working good rolling down the road,sitting overnight the air leaks out
I still got to check those air bags thourghly

I am planning on replaceing my air line from my compressor to the dryer
steel braided hose out of the compressor and then a number 10 wire braided hoes connects it to the dryer.
after 15 years,it probally needs replacing
the wire braided hose has to be made special so maybe today or tomorrow if I don`t have to work,I`ll jump on it

For that wire braided hose, as a cheaper DIY option get stratoflex. It’s cheaper and you can make it the length you want. As long as it’s not the length attached to the compressor.

Those air drain cocks are all junk. I’ve put new ones on and they leak brand new. Gotta jiggle them just right to seat. Next day drain the tanks and they’re leaking again.
If there’s a better quality that can be bought I’m all ears

Just to make sure I was clear, you can use it on the length to the dryer. Lol but you bet any time.

As far as airbags go, the cab bags are a far more likely culprit than the big ones.

Is there a general rule of thumb on how long a truck should hold air?

Or a general rule of thumb on how long it should take to build 130 psi?

I know we had a recall on an Isuzu/GM medium duty truck. 7500 series or Topkick. Anyway it had to build from 0-120 in 9 min and 30 seconds or less. Otherwise we had to replace a bunch of random parts including the compressor.

I don't think I've ever seen a truck NOT lose at least a good wack of air overnight. Even a brand new one with barely 30,000 km on the odometer and trailer brakes set.

Depending on my trailer and the wind. Typically I can shut it off at 120 and wake up with 110 or better even with the trailer brakes released.

I typically lose most of my air just sitting there in about 45 minutes, trailer on but trailer brakes not set

Just for giggles my truck was at 30 psi this morning, took about 5 minutes at idle to bring it up to 130 psi
