2019 gardening thread

As you all know I am a city dweller an have no land to speak of. But this time I put in a valid effort to research allotment gardens. Basically I would be renting some city owned land to grow a garden.

I can't apply for an allotment until the 19th of this month. My predictions will be,
  1. I forget to apply.
  2. I will forget that I applied and was granted one.
  3. I will plant seeds and then forget that I have a garden.
Anywayz , if I get a plot I would like to do some tomatoes, potatoes, peas and onions.
you can always get a 5 gallon pail, (preferably one never used as a toilet) , put in a bag of garden soil, and plant a tomato plant. (more instructions later)

if you have at least one window where the sun comes in for a few hours daily, you're golden. if not, you can buy a simple gooseneck lamp, and use a 100 watt incandescent light bulb. and leave that on for a few hours daily.

container gardening is what "some" city dwellers do.

There we were... in th' middle of a weed drought!

:eek-64:

It's August, an' we got tickets fer th' Stones at Folsom Field in Boulder!

:biggrin-2:

It's hot, an' everyone brought booze to party with... you can smell it in th' heat. But we got home grown!! Pull out a couple of blunts, an' passed th' nectar o' th' garden around!!

:cool-61:

Man! That was one good concert! Jagger was a wild man, an we got Stoned with th' Stones!

:rolllaugh3:

I grew a lot of weed when I was young
if you grow it,you have to test it to see how good it is...I tested weed for 20 years
I should be growing weed. I think we can grow up to four plants, I have never really looked into it the legal amounts. But, I did watch a show that said if you keep the female plants sex starved (Not being pollinated) they will produce a stickier bud and have more THC.

Mine's going to be a while. Northern Idaho isn't ready to give up on the cold white stuff yet.

I have a few trees to remove and then I have to pitchfork the hay out and bring in a few loads of top soil. But I'll be getting my starts in peat plugs this week.

it I plant nothing else in a garden it is peppers all kinds of peppers we use a LOT of different peppers in cooking and they are way overpriced in the stores fo use when not in season we freeze, dehydrate, pickle them and it seems like no matter how many we preserve buy the middle of February we end up having to buy them next up is sweet corn there is nothing in the stores that come even close to homed canned sweet corn .
after that is lima's because they are my favorite bean and at times hard to find and again you will never find canned lima's in the store that can come close to
hint a drill powered pea sheller works on lima's
and tomatoes.tomatoes, tomatoes mostly roma's or anther sauce tomato
we really put our victorio strainer thru its paces when we start getting tomatoes juices, sauces salsa ect,
cucumbers, I love making different dills and sweet pickles
I have a special sweet pickle that friends as far away as Florida are already begging me to send them, last year I put up five cases of pints and at the moment I have maybe half a case left them are MINE period
if you want to try a similar pickle and are going up 71 in Ohio at RT 30 there is a place that is call grampa's cheese barn that has something similar call sweetfire pickles they are pretty good but mine are better
then we have our salad garden that we eat out of daily the problem with a salad garden is it ALWAYS produces much more than a family can eat I have a friend that runs a shelter for abused women that I made a deal with as long as he comes out and helps with the garden they can have all the excess bounty they want, he has been bringing out some of the women and their kids for several years now and in that times we have become friends with some of them bu tit is the kids that my heart breaks for and am always glad when they come
some of them have made friends with my grand kids and it is a win win for all involved

I got my Email from the community garden and I am on a waiting list. So i can assume I will not be getting one this year. Reading further into the E-mail a community plot is all about getting together with other people and sharing ideas and probably singing Kumbya. :rolleyes-80:
Not exactly what I was looking for. I was in no way looking to socialize. I would say hello and what not but, pretty much leave me alone and let me do my own thing.
I was looking to rent a space to grow a few veggies, work the soil and take some pride in reaping what I have sown.
This just looks like a hippy experience with people that still think they are at Woodstock. I think I am out on this one. :(

No community garden plot, But it looks like I am not out of the game yet. I may do the balcony garden thing. Sure it will be at a larger start up cost than a regular garden and not nearly as cool as a regular garden but it will be mine.
