2018 gardening thread

I think this is the remnant of @Duck 's garlic from last year where I planted some of it along with onion sets and some other stuff last year.
There are a few more in the front of this same grow-bed.

i still want to plant some seeds along the curbside planter the city installed. however with rain, freezing temps, and snow, that is impossible.

they are day lilies that are in need of repopulating, and no early start for me.

then, it did not help that an AAA tow truck. pulled up and into one planter, to help drag out a car that ran into one next door......

this is an old pic.

this one, is in front of my house, (obviously on trash day too) there is another one, at the other end of my sidewalk. that needs the extra seeds.

notice the VERY sharp corners. notice the black pole. notice too, that in dead center, there once was a tree.

nearly EVERY black pole on nearly every planter on my street, is gone, nearly ALL tree's are gone.

people hit, the corners, get launched "Dukes of Hazzard Style", and wipe out the black poles. then the tree's..or sometimes, they went 2 for 2.....

the city was supposed to round off the sharp corners.....the money "ran out"..........

these were installed to "calm traffic".........instead, they cause people to get blow outs, and/or climb up them, destroy the wheels, and rip open either the oil pans or transmission pans......

so i don't want the ones in front of my house, to look like crap, all weeds, and other crap. so we keep them clean, and have those perennials, day lilies.

There was one of them there black poles on the shoulder near where I grew up. It was plastic and you could run it over with a car and it wouldn't leave a dent. So we used to run it over like every day.

Then one day it was gray instead of black. So I stopped to look at it. The ass hole who lived next to it apparently got tired of us driving through the grass all the time just to hit that thing, and had replaced it with 3" galvanized steel, set in concrete.

I went home and got my oxygen and acetylene setup and cut it off flush with the ground. :D

I've been wanting to do that to all the signs they put up in the rest areas in Nebraska.

Finally got a nice day here. Aboot 80 degrees Fahrenheit. (I specify Fahrenheit so as not to confuse @Rigjockey. I’m just thoughtful like that.)
Rode over to the price club and topped off the van with gas and then crossed the street to the Home Depot. I bought 6 broccoli, 6 cabbage, 6 collard greens. I also bought a little temporary fencing so I can block Billie from getting into the garden. I got home and built the fence, then started planting the plants only to discover I had 12 cabbage and no Collards! Somebody put a cabbage in the Collard slot and I didn’t notice. I was a little hungover this morning so I’ll take blame and chalk that up to a “learning experience.” Buy your vegetables before you drink. In the second picture the plant at the bottom left is about how I looked this morning. :biggrin-2:

It’s really late to be getting this stuff in but I should still be good to plant Lima’s when that stuff is done. I’d like to find a few kale plants also.
I might just do Lima’s and tomatoes this year.

I planted 29 garlic seeds last fall from the plants that grew from the seeds @Duck sent me. 26 of them sprouted. Then, I had to move them, so I'll see how they do with the disruption.

so far, i still have 13 out of 15 that i planted, not bad as from previous years.

gonna rain, like what again? all day today.

as soon as the soil dries out, i will till the garden.

then maybe lime it again, but this year, i may not apply the cow manure that decision is still on hold.

Planted some Collards and Kale yesterday. I have a pest eating some of my plants. Rabbit I reckon. He got one of my kale plants only a few hours after I planted them.
