2018 gardening thread

Yeah.

Drill a wide hole as deep as you can in the center. Then drill horizontally at ground level until it meets the vertical hole.

Let it dry out for a year, then start a fire in that hole with oil or something.
i had bought a tree stump removal kit many years ago. one of the extras they recommend i buy was K-1.

This thread reminded me that I am supposed to look into a community gardening plot. I picked up my phone a couple times but I forgot what I was supposed to look up at Google:foreheadslap:
Squirrel:stare1:
aren't community gardening plots, just another name for cemeteries.>???

I happen to own a cemetery plot way up north. The only Tax free land one will ever own!
I wonder if they will let me garden it in the mean time:biglaugh:It's only a 4 hour drive from here.

Super beefsteaks started in coconut coir a couple of months ago.
Transplanted a couple of weeks ago.
They're a little leggy but not bad.
I planted the coir pods fairly deep to force more rooting further up the stalk.
When I put them into the wicking beds or the raised beds I'll plant them deep.

YO! ZONE 7 !!! You might wanna get the lead out of your ass!!

Started 6 each Cherries & Roma's from seed.
6 Jalapeno and another 12 bell peppers.
20 or so beefsteaks & 15 or so mortgage lifters.

If I do any more tomatoes or peppers I'll probably just do cuttings from the best couple of plants.

last weekend, i cleaned the garden, and limed the area....nice warm spring day. then it snowed........no mention of snow till the very next day..

the garden will still have to be cleaned again, but for what little i will be planting this year, i will save on not buying manure, peat moss, and fertilizer. i will use generic plant food only, and use up the rest of the lime.

next year, maybe no garden at all, just hanging flower pots.

not exactly about gardening but I got a dozen baby chicks today to bolster my aging flock which fertilizes the garden and takes care of any blemished veggies

Do I see snow in freaking april
I should have taken a screenshot of Weatherbug earlier today.

The radar screen was centered on the IL/IN state line showing most of both states in blue, indicating snow. Except right in the middle was pink, indicating "mixed".

The pink was shaped like a big giant.... "phallus" with the nut sack being centered over Evansville, IN and the tip was centered over Kankakee.

Being about ten miles north of Kankakee, I was right in the danger zone. I imagine one that size, when you adjust for proportions, if it took a whizz it would be like the Amazon River except flowing at damn near the speed of light..

Scary.

Do I see snow in freaking april
we got hit here in New England with some April snow, April 2nd to be exact.

we are "in line" for another round of snow, which if things also happen as predicted, it'll be turning over to rain showers.

it is very annoying to have snow this late in the season. many gardeners like to get early starts on cleaning the garden, and maybe other preparations to the gardens, like tilling it, maybe adding some fertilizers etc, then simply put the plants in on or about mothers day weekend.

and even though the snows of April melt away the next couple of days afterwards, many of us DO NOT put away our snow removal equipment. you'd still see trucks around here with snow plows attached. as they have contracts to plow for x number of inches.
