2017 gardening thread.

Why are my pics disappearing from view and getting x'd out after a few days?
Is it file size?
Some of them wouldn't post originally but would after just reducing the size on my screen without changing pixels or anything.

@Duck ?
@Injun ?
Mike.

Notice I didn't put the @ before his name.

It's because that's the answer to your question, not passing it along like Injun did.

You should know this by now. Whenever weird stuff starts happening, it's because Mike got bored. o_O

I've traveled all over the world and ate some very colorful food. When I asked what certain things were I was surprised they were carrots. If I remember correctly there was never an orange carrot. They were made to honor some person in Denmark??? Earl of Orange or something like that.

carrots.webp

OK, I was sort of close. You made me look it up.

Allegedly they are orange for entirely political reasons: in the 17th century, Dutch growers are thought to have cultivated orange carrots as a tribute to William of Orange – who led the the struggle for Dutch independence – and the color stuck

But was Wiliam ever in a "blue mood"..???

did he ever feel "green" with envy about others in a better position..??

did he ever see "red" when he got so angry..?????

Just got a seed packet with all different colors of carrots. :)

And I'm sieving the garden. Too much gravel in it. Lot of work, but I need that gravel in the driveway. And I'll back fill with more topsoil. Should have some really nice root veggies this year.
:nails:

Powdery mildew on Carolina White strawberries.
:(

I haven't seen this on the red ever-bearing.
After reading up a bit I decided to prune the infected leaves away which was a LOT!
I got about a gallon if measured loose.
Then I misted them with 4 ounces raw milk to 1 quart water with a squirt of dish soap.
I read that milk inhibits the mildew and I figured that raw milk would be better since it's has live organisms in it instead of dead ones (like store-bought milk).

Thee was a lot of mildew though.
The crap was flying while I was pruning leaves off so who knows?

The 14x28 greenhouse is nice and I'll probably always have a large one but I often think that a series of smaller ones is more sensible. The two 7x9 greenhouses that have the strawberries and greens in them are isolated from everything except what occurs in there.

It's been cloudy & rainy here for days.
I don't know what the humidity is in the small houses but it's 85% in the big one right now.

it was about 60 Sunday, so i did more yard cleaning and leveled the garden.

was still very wet, but at least, no soil being blown around by the breeze.

next comes buying some cow crap, and turning over that garden, with some fertilizer, maybe next month.

not sure yet if i wanna go to the local bait shop, and buy some worms as well. i only saw one night crawler in the garden.

repaired the chicken wire fencing from the snow damage.

still have lots of dead leaves in the arborvitae that are dropping, and need to be cleaned up.

a little at a time.

mother's day weekend is when the greenhouse usually has everything out and ready for sale.
