2014 Volvo w/12 speed auto

@J Williams I drive one of those, and yes they are smooth and quiet. Mine is a 2013, with D13 Volvo motor, I have no complaints as far as power.
Them dutchmen in Iowa are buying nothing but Volvo-powered Volvomatics these days. I drove one a few hours, from Evansdale, IA to the 52 mm rest area on I-80 in IL.

I would quit before allowing myself to become permanently assigned to one. Seriously, .. I won't do it. It's a combination of the silly automatic trans and that worthless, gutless wimp of a motor. 13 liters, ... really? What are you hauling, freakin' potato chips? Styrofoam packing peanuts? o_O

Not to mention the Volvo itself. I don't know if you're in a 680 or a 760. The smaller Volvos are nice handling trucks, but the bigger ones with the sleeper window instead of the little vent thing have so much body roll even when they're brand new, you'll get seasick in a parking lot idling in first gear.

I backed one out of the wash bay the other day so I could get a Peterbilt out, and I was idling in reverse and all I did was cut the wheel to the right so I could park it off to the side of the doorway to make room to back the Peterbilt out and when I started turning the wheel, the damn Volvo cab started leaning like I was taking an exit ramp at twice the advisory speed. It was ridiculous. I looked at the speedometer & it had only 46,000 miles on it. So it wasn't even worn out.

I know an 18 wheeler isn't exactly a sportscar but the KW T0660's and the Pete 386's are pretty rock-solid when it comes to body/cab roll.

The E/P shift option is disabled.
It gets about 6.5mpg avg.
Not great, but my idle time is zero since I have a bunk heater, so I get a nice fuel bonus each month since
I save the company $1000 in idle fuel.
That will surely change in summer.

To each his own.
I'd rather keep my job with a good company before I would piss and moan because my truck isn't as cool as a Pete.
I've never been in one, so I have no opinion on it.
Like I said before, compared to my 07 FL, this truck is a Cadillac.

It's not about the truck not being as cool as a Pete.

It's about being the butt of a joke. :taunt:

Seriously though, .. there's only one purpose for automatics.

It's so they can people with no skills to drive them. Jobs that don't require any skills, don't pay worth a crap. Next they'll have back-up cameras or some kind of "auto-park" system.

Hell nothing wrong with autoshifts. Most of the bugs have been worked out of the x-y shifters.

The Volvo's I drove were back when they were putting eatons system in. But I heard those Volvo's can pull if geared right.

Pay no attention to Duck. He has been fed episodes of BJ McKay and Smokey and the Bandit. :bootyshake:

I'm already at the pond, so :tease:
Your opinion is skewed... How much cake have you.... Oh wait, that's mine.

Your opinion is your own... Truckers Forum dot Net doesn't have an opinion on the matter and the advertiser is solely flapping his bill.

No, yours is skewed, .. whatever that may be. You haven't voiced an opinion about automatics yet as far as I recall, but I'm sure that when you do, it'll be skewed. ;)

Advertiser? Huh?

No, .. the forum has no opinion. Because the forum is everyone who posts on here. And you know as well as I do that you can rarely get two truck drivers to agree on anything.

Automatics are for steering wheel holders though. They're for fleets to buy & put rookies in & tell them "just put it in 'D for dumbass' and step on the 'gas' & try not to run over anything."

Yes, @Duck, I drive a 2013 680 Volvo 12 speed AUTO SHIFT. I have driven kw660 straight, w-900 kws. straight, 387 pete straight, etc. It doesn't make me less of a truck driver than a truck driver that drives a KW or Pete straight shift. I do the same thing other drivers have to do on the road, except change gears. I'm disabled, I have an artificial ankle, with 3 pins holding it together which gives me what they call a stationary ankle. That is why I work for an auto shift company. I'm out on the road every week, away from my family just like everyone else that drives. But I guess opinions are like assholes everyones got one right. :thefinger:

The part of the quote I put in bold, is your excuse. :D

Seriously though, .. automatics are so fleets can eventually phase out teaching people how to shift so the CDL mills can crank out minimum wage workers even faster.
