even if i had all the money from the upcoming Power Ball, i'd still not want those.

i'd have a huge shop, built and supplied to my specs, even have the most up to date spray booth, and restore or rebuild older cars, may not always up to full restoration, but close. much like Jay leno does,. but his shop fully restores to factory.

hell a bunch of us here we rent a track out here or in nevada once in a while and we take out or big guy toys and drive em like they were ment to be driven:yahoo:. sure i have a racing suit but i never wear it i do wear a helmet though i do carry a fire extinguisher. hell you only live once might as well enjoy it:yahoo:. nothing like checking the performance of a car as well as the driving dynamics of it also. though you go through tires and break pads like a mother:rolleyes::stare1:. i rember when i started to learn how to drive one of these things!!! we cam up to a strait part of the track and he told me to put my foot in it and that's just what i did:D away we went lmao. and i learned in one of these:D. i crapped my pants going around the track:biglaugh:Mercedes-Benz_SLR_McLaren_AMI.webp

if it floats your boat, i am happy for you, just ain't my thing.

i never saw the justification in it, when an expensive engine build job blows up.

when i was in my teens, and starting working in a garage, the mechanic had a 57 Nomad. he had the engine blueprinted, and he built it, and i was there to watch and help out. i'll never remember how much it cost back then. but he took it out one day, soon after the engine was in and running.

obviously something went wrong, when much of the engine, came up thru a brand new hole it made in the hood.....lol

just me, but the justification of all that money spent, going up into the air, does not turn me on, over restoring/rebuilding cars and trucks.

The fellow driving the yellow 32 is up in his late seventies....His rocking chair is racing....

i'm to stubborn and hard headed to let anything put me in a rocking chair:rolleyes:

I spent this weekend in a different rocking chair......Travel the hwy of legends on Friday and on Saturday made another trip up into York Canyon on Sunday went to Cimarron Canyon State park...Then on too Angel fire and the Veterans Memorial there then on to kit Carson National forest at Taos. Stapped on my leathers and helmet crawled on the back of the motorcyle and said, let's ride balls to the wall......:biglaugh:.....had a grand time!!!

one word answer....

Hippies...

For products being junk...I blame corporate greed and not necessarily the consumer. I don't know too many people content with anything that breaks shortly after its bought, and many times not even paid for.

I think it was GE that made a light bulb back in the 40s (?) That burned steadily for years and years.

They're not going to release that to the public so that everyone only has to buy one light bulb their entire life. GE would put themselves out of business.

Corporate greed.

There are still quality products out there. Few are American made however. Toyota, Honda, BMW, Mercedes all still make good products for example.

we can blame the gubberment to for forcing manufactures to make things like appliances more energy efficient. do you really think the brand new fridge is efficient as something form the 50's i highly doubt it since there's piss poor insulation in them now.. hmm a washer that takes over 4 hours to do a load of laundry is more efficient than an old school top loader maybe for water usage... and you would be lucky to get 5 years out of this crap vs 12 years

nothing like driving something that can either reward you or punish you. nothing like driving something that can make you cry make you laugh and or go bonkers and have a mental moment:D:yahoo::usflag:. just don't take your eyes off the road or loose concentration or you'll wind up in the shrubs somewhere:stare1:

I like my "new" 2014 car. It was two models old when I bought it this past fall. It's ridiculously quiet, spunky, and appointed for a subcompact. Blows my old 1997 Escort away in every single way.

I love my smart phone. I can perform my trucking non-driving duties more efficiently with it.

It costs money to join modern times but proportionally speaking it's not more costly. A TV set back in your nostalgia days was a HUGE purchase most people couldn't afford for a while. Now you can get one with half a day's worth of wages.

Old stuff didn't last forever. If it did, it'd still be around. How many 1950s cars are driven daily outside of Cuba?

Exactly.

That's why it annoys me so to see "recyclers" crushing whole cars with everything still in them. Throwing away money.

The best scrapping operation I ever saw was located just a few miles south of Quebec City. As soon as a "junker" came in it was completely stripped of all usable parts; doors, fenders, hoods, window glass, complete interior, etc, etc. Everything was sorted and stored and cataloged so that they knew where it all was. For fun I asked them about an arm-rest pad on the passenger side door on a big ol Buick Electra I had at the time. Guy went to the computer, click-click and "What color do you want, we have 10 of them". Think I paid like $20 for it. NOS one was something like $250. They shipped parts all over the world on the internet. No idea if they still in business.
I got a raw deal on this car and pulled all the good stuff off before scrapping it.

Remember in one post I wrote all about those different types of schools...Well, I attended everyone of them at some time in my lifetime and walked away with quite a education....But the watch school is the hands on thing.....I learned more from watching someone than I ever learned out of a books. Then there is still this idea....I still in the molding stage of life....never been poured out of that mold I still that soft piece of clay...Another words never too old to learn.
I don't learn well by watching. I have to actually do it.
