What is it going to take to survive?

I am not on here advertising, I have never stated how I work with, for or anything. Its pretty obvious that me being a broker, is going to get me nothing more than flames on here. Good luck to you all, we are all going to need.

Unfortunately, you're right.
Most of the people on here have been getting screwed by everyone,(brokers, companies and even other drivers) so the frustration level is pretty high and tolerance level pretty low.
And as times get tougher, instead of pulling together, people are just getting meaner and pulling apart. I think you see that from the national level all the way down to the neighborhood level.:(

One Question please..........
Name your company?

I reread it and reread it again words like pissed off at the trucks, brokers aren't killing the market trucks, are stand out.

and I do not see anywhere where you are only taking 8% i do see 30 to 50% though.

now if you can spin that to make anyone believe you are the last honest broker I would suggest you apply for a czars job with blowbama he can always use another bullshit artists to convince the sheeple that he can turn water into wine!!!

on my board I am very much aware of how good the freight going into CA is and how CHEEP it is coming back out of CA......and I agree w/gearjamer

I am going to apoligize to all for loosing my composure.

Zapco I will ad one more opinion of mine to see if we have any takers. I am fortunate enough to have been in this business long enough that I have experience on both sides of the issue.
You give me a broker that is dispatching loads for 30 to 50% and believe me that is no chump change. That is willing to trade places with a long haul driver for 60 days, I will show you a person of admiration.
I am not speaking of a current broker that has actually experienced the other side personally, I am referring to the broker that likes easy money with little expense

I feel for all of you, I dont think you read my post carefully. I for one do not take more than 8% (avg 5.6% last year). I think if you read my post, you'll notice I am stating it is time to stand up and DO NOT TAKE CHEAP FRIEGHT. Everyone on here can continue to hate brokers but I will sleep well at night knowing I am trying my damn hard to take care of the truck with fair rates and NOT killing the market.

Then STOP booking CHEAP Freight :beep:

How do you know how much the broker is taking from the load? I know the broker doesn't tell you. And if the shipper does, he/she are of course going to lie or know that information is not to be given to no one.

As an ex driver and now a broker I make the same peanuts as I did when I was a driver. Except I'm finally at home with my family.

Fortunately I have been in this industry long enough to have built a good recor with shippers, consignees, sales reps. and brokers alike. I have also been experienced to being the shipper that was responsible for booking the freight. That is where I have gotten my fact based information as to the average % that brokers are getting off these loads

I commend you, you use to be a driver, now let me ask you a couple of questions in reference to your comments.

(As an ex driver and now a broker I make the same peanuts as I did when I was a driver. Except I'm finally at home with my family)

Was you an owner/operator or a company driver ? the same peanuts: could be taken as same pay at lesser expense and less sacrafice. What gives you the right to ask a motivated owner/operator that has the passion for their choice of career to haul freight you have booked for the same money you are collecting ?
They have more operating cost, more sacrafice and dedication to be committed to that customer and load. Whats your sacrafices for that load ?

You are the one that ask the question and said you do not give out that information, yet in the next sentence you make claim to making the same money as a Broker of Freight now that you did when you were the hauler of that freight. Looks to me like you have just pulled out a double edged sword. With regards to your attempt to bring forward a rebuttal to this thread

The sadest thing about your rebutal to this thread Lance, is to the fact in your own word and your own comments, you confirm everything that is getting said about brokers taking 30% to 50%

brokers are not going to tell you, as you state, they are going to lie thru their teeth, now on the other hand the customer knows exactly what they paid to get their freight moved and if a person takes and uses some of the bullshit spin on them that the brokers use on the O/o's it usually doesn't take long before they tell you exactly what they paid to get it moved and trust me the gross reported by the brokers is never even close to what the customer actually paid, which by the way usually pisses the customer off to no end when they find out that they are also getting the shaft sans Vaseline.

You will not get a response out of him gearjammer, he tried his rebuttal and in his own comments he put the rope around his industries neck and hung them

This is a sensitive topic, always has been always will be.

My first reply would be to Chae Transport.

First off, I didn't state a comment. I was asking a question. Second, I wasn't stating a rebuttal. Again a question is not a form of a rebuttal. I do not understand how my question even remotely confirmed brokers taking 30% - 50%.

Gearjammer the reports (trend) by brokers are not honest reports and very inaccurate.

I have never received to this day 30% - 50% profit on a load. The shippers I use use 50 other brokers like myself and I average if I'm lucky 8% on a load. Which I feel is pretty damn fair considering how hard I work.

Chae I was a company driver/trainer. Also raised by a O/O family. I was just about to go O/O when the recession hit. Scared the hell out of me, so I stayed a company driver.

I'm not here to bust any ones balls, that was not my intention. I actually have a few questions I'm looking to get answered that may help us all in the end.

First you probably should read your own comments for what they say, you claim you are now a broker making the same money you were making as a driver: henze the suggestion from your statement that you are charging 50%. Do the math, can't understand your own comments makes it pretty self explainatory

Second: If you have never set in the seat as a business owner, you don't have a damn clue what these people are experiencing. So you really do not stand on the experience of both sides of that issue, does not surprise me. There are many quick to judge without knowing both sides

The challange I made at the start of this forum was for a Broker to come forward that had actually been on both sides of the fence. (Broker)-business owner and (Owner/Operator-business owner) I mean no offense to company drivers but Lance your situation does not qualify.

And then after saying you would never tell anyone what you charge. You come back to the thread in your next comment to say you only get 8%. You should run for political office for as much side talking you have done

I would like to know how Lance made the transition from a driver to being a broker. It was something I considered years back, and the idea is again going from the back of my brain to the front!

Lately Sinister they have started going out to corportions and offer their services as an agent for a set fee a month to cover all that companies inbound and outbound freight needs. Then they get around the requires Broker DOT number because they are not actually brokering but working as a contracted agent

Brokers

Sounds like a lot of us feel the same way. Who is going to get the petition started to FMC regarding required brokers to have a 1 Million Dollar Bond. You need to get it drawn up and when you are in the truck stops talk to the fellow o/o and get them to sign.

I work for a loader board that completely cuts out all brokers. What happens is that shippers save a little and carriers make a nice percent more per load. If you are worried about pay issues use quick pay or a factoring company. You give up 3-5 percent there but the percent you make up for cutting the broker far out shines that.

My suggestion is to dedicate yourself to raising the percentage of shipper direct loads and lower broker loads. Either market shippers directly or go to boards that are broker free.

WOW! I can't even imagine making 30 to 50%! We would be happy to make 10%, which would give us about 6% since we have a company guarantee the carrier that they will be paid no matter what and they charge about 4%.
