Truckers allege Mexico-based operators are stealing jobs, profits

George Bush Jr changed all of that after 911
Canada was refusing to adopt certain airport screening criteria at the time. We stepped up customs at airport to help keep terrorists out, but they could still enter the USA via Canada.

Because GWB couldn't force y'all to change your customs policies, the only thing he could do is step up our own security at the Canadian border.

I guess your government didn't want to strip search toddlers and old grannies and confiscate their toothpaste like our TSA does.

I am about ready to rack in and I just got to say, I thought this thread would get hostile and it didn't.
It just shows we can relate and have a productive dialogue.
Much respect to you fine folks.

That is totally understandable!
I think also at the time there was a false narrative that the 911 terrorists came from Canada and that was simply untrue but George had a rightfully so pissed off nation and requiring passports seemed to ease the minds of some.

I remember crossing the border shortly after 911 and they had the U.S. Army at the border. Shit was tense!
I had a load of empty paint totes headed for Chicago and the border agent and the Army guy with a rifle wanted to take a look inside the trailer.
Have at 'er boys.
They damned near fell on their asses from the paint fumes. :rolllaugh2:

That was sappy. Does "rack in" mean "pass out drunk"?
It may have been sappy but if you have ever been to a border crossing and had the C.B. radio on there is a lot of chirping going on Canadians v. Americans and this thread could have quickly turned into that kind of dumpster fire.

The chirping at the border gets brutal sometimes but, the funny thing is after the border we all just get along again

That reminds me I need to install the CB in my truck.

Are you sure?

You run the east coast. How many times a day do you think you can hear "BA BA BOOEY" before you turn it off?
You joke but the I81 construction in WV constantly has wrecks. I run the left lane and piss everyone off because it's original highway while others fight the half assed temporary lane and some get tossed off the side and flip over.
