transmission issue

I have a 2019 Fredlighner Cascadia, which accidentally broke transmission air tank. I put new air tank but the engine won't start because its telling me to put gear in neutral. I can't put gear in neutral because there is no air in the new tank. How can I let air into truck from outside? or can anyone give me advise on what I can do!

Why not call freightliner and ask them.
I know a lot of them won't help over the phone cause they want you to bring it in to the steelership but , some will it just takes a few calls to find one that will.

Get someone else with a truck or if you are near a shop. Shop air compressor. Get an air line with a glad hand on each end hook one to your truck and one to theirs. Push red knobs in and viola air is filled. If shop air then you just need a glad hand for your truck end and a long enough hose to reach. But the only way to get it started is to fill it with air.

My truck has a fitting like a tire does, under hood on drivers side by the air distribution plate. Its for the mechanic or tow guy to air up the system if your broke down.

Tractor protection valve won't let air into your truck. I have adapters made just for that reason and learned that I can't use it that way. I had to actually install an air fitting onto an airline before the tractor protection valve.

Never had this issue with the 100s of trucks I aired up this way when I worked at Freightliner. We even had a shop hose that had a glad hand on it for this purpose. Plus, tractor protection valves are nothing like they used to be.

I'd hook up the air line to the red line and it would just let the air bypass. No filling the tanks at all. That was on a 2007 century.

Made a pair of glad hands that fitted onto an air hose specifically to allow me to air up my truck or another when disabled.

Gotta have the red knob pushed in on both trucks but the older tractor protection valves wouldn’t allow it. You can also do red line to blue line as long as you hold the foot pedal down.

Yes, you should have a fitting on the supply tank for the trans to charge up directly. I’m assuming this is a D12?
If it was an Eaton auto or an AGS by Mercedes he wouldn’t have this problem. Eaton is full electric, Mercedes AGS is hydrolic, the AGS wasn’t available in a Cascadia, and is no longer marketed in North America. That leaves the German marvel the D12(as you referred to it, but D12 is a Volvo engine) or DT12. Which is completely air operated. And if the tank on the trans loses air and it happens to not hold in true neutral. You can’t start the truck until there is over 60 psi in the tank.

Fun Fact: average clutch life on a DT12 is 750k, most guys running their own clutch is less than half that.

Fun Fact: The DT12 has several replaceable components but the main box can not be overhauled.
