Top load antennas...

Do they perform as good as say a Wilson 2000 , Monkey Made, Predator... ect.? Reason I'm asking is I'm being put into a Volvo and I know about the grounding issue. It has a headache rack on it and I was thinking of just mounting a top load type to it. What would be the best one and what are the pros & cons of using a top load?

Thanks,

I have a Firestik top load antenna running a stock Galaxy 949 and it's not too bad. They say top load antennas are great since the coil windings are at the top it sticks up further thus being able to receive and transmit better. Keep in mind this set up is in my pick up truck not a rig. For $25.00 I can't complain too much about the Firestik, it's a durable and sturdy antenna for the price and worth every penny. People have different opinions and some say the coil antennas are better but if your running a radio with power then a Firestik or other antenna similar won't do the job but if your running a stock big radio in my case the Firestik does the job for me. I don't care about talking over people or being a billy big rigger, the cb is a tool and since I don't drive trucks I use it as something to keep me up or entertained but I also have Sirius so most of the time I keep the cb turned down, the only time I'm really on the radio is giving out bear reports or answering a radio check. I get tired of all the fighting on the cb, I honestly do.

When I drove a Volvo, I used the "Bird Perch" mount and ran a Wilson 5000 antenna, and ran the coax just as I explained in the other post. But, I recommend you taking it to a CB shop and having them put the coax in, as they will set the SWR's after the install. I had a flat match with my install, I was running a Galaxy 98 VHP same as the one I use for an avatar here. The radio did over 300 watts..so a VERY GOOD SWR was needed, in order to NOT burn it up. I had no problems with grounding after the purchase of the "Bird Perch" mount.
