The Island of Misfit Toys

I think they didn’t do a real good job when they replaced my windshield. Should it whistle while driving down highway?

Have nothing in my heart for Cartersville. Can’8t stand the place will never stand the place. Albany I like. Lol.
Not gonna lie, that makes you a little weird in my eyes. WTF could you possibly like about Albany? Worst terminal in the company as far as I was concerned.

Dude you need to go to Second Half. For real. Fantastic food, wonderful people. Coldest beer you're gonna find anywhere in this miserable area of the country. You're lucky, you can easily park within very comfortable walking distance. I have to wedge my truck in a fairly uncomfortable spot across the street. Come appreciate this place while you can. Apparently Miss Wanda is no longer here. She got married and moved away. Sumbody dun stole my eye candy lmao. Still a great spot, check it out while you're still with Millis.

Well, so much for that funny post. Today did not go as intended. Screwed myself for the second time this week by attempting to be clever this morning. Load was scheduled to pick up at 10am, place opens at 7. So I left Cartersville in time to get to a truck stop a few miles away by 7 and call them to try and come in early. Was worth a shot, but it backfired. So instead of posting from Raphine tonight, I'm in Fort Chiswell. The best laid plans of mice and men... Oh well. No story for me. But, got a nice compliment this morning as a consolation prize. The place I went to was one of the most challenging I've ever seen. Dude who loaded my trailer said it was the best backing he'd ever seen from someone who had never been there before. Not a compliment I hear very often, or EVER lmao. Made my head swell a little, can't lie.

When you're on a roll, might as well go all the way. This has been a clusterflux of a week already... Could have gone to tomorrow's consignee tonight and spent the night. But I opted to stop at one of my favorite places on the way there. Probably wouldn't have made it home tomorrow anyhow, the way this week's been going. And if that happened I'd be doubly pissed that I didn't stop here tonight. I feel like a kid waitin' on Christmas. Should be outta here in a couple weeks. Oh happy days. Where are you guys hiding @Snowblind and @Farmer54 ??

Interesting... I suppose it's the remaining habits of being company meat and looking for longer runs. Kind of a hard state of mind to unlearn. But I rediscovered a few things about our load board I had already known but never really had the patience to perfect. Tomorrow is the end of my pay period and I'm landing in a horrible spot to find a load. Well, at least a load that doesn't go to some hellhole like the NY/Jersey/Baltimore area. Caught a load going through home so I can kiss the wife hello and goodbye real quick. Doesn't pay amazingly well but freight in eastern PA is what it is. On the other end in Indiana I found some crazy stuff and the reloads at the finals are just as crazy. I'm starting to understand what my buddy Dave has been saying for years. Bout to rethink how I'm running, and starting Monday I am beginning an experiment. For those of you out there considering O/O, I have a thought for you to ponder. Folks always recommend having a decent bankroll when you get started. But they always say it for the wrong reasons. Yeah, you need to have repair/maintenance money but the bigger concern is float money. The money you need to bridge the gap while you learn. And learning doesn't come quick, even if you're really smart. The only things that make you better is time and experience and scars. When I left construction to drive truck, it was a life and culture shock on the highest order. I thought that what I learned when I started was overwhelming. Holy shit man, nothing compared to ownership. Anyone can do this as long as you're paying constant attention (which I wasn't) and learn as much as possible every day (which I was trying to do). Just found some crazy stuff that is going to make leaving tough. Kinda want to see what this new discovery here brings. But if it works it'll serve me just as well over there but I'll be on new ground. Never a dull moment out here in Truckerland. Gotta love it.

@MIT Almost topped my owl incident the other day in PA. Shooting down some crappy back country road and a HUGE bird almost met it's demise. I'm not a bird guy so I don't profess to know the breed, but it looked like a Heron. Used to see those things all the time when camping and hunting in southern Ohio. At 50-55mph I would definitely have been replacing a windshield or air foil, whichever it would've hit. Scared the hell out of me, came out of nowhere. Woke me up instantly lol. You shoulda seen the wingspan on this thing :eek-64:

Welp, I guess this'll be my last shot in the dark on this thread, because noone else is participating, apparently. Today was probably the weirdest twist I've ever experienced. The load I'm hauling goes to a fraternity house at a college in Indiana, not going to name either. Load is supposed to deliver Monday at 8am. Somehow the job of unloading the trailer (unbeknownst to me) was on the shoulders of the kids. On a friggin Monday while school is in session. I called the woman in charge half an hour ago and asked if tomorrow would be better. Not only was she thrilled, the whole house was thrilled. AND, I have more workers, AND I have better opportunities for freight. This, my friends, is a good day. Let the beer rain down from the heavens. At this moment in time I'm probably the happiest trucker you'll encounter today. Except for leaving home at 5am on a Sunday 🤣 Oh well at least I'll have a fresh 70. Noone likes stale 70s. They start attracting fruit flies after a while.

I’d rather kick it off on Sunday too. Frees up Monday to grab the next load and keep rolling.

Dispatchers never understood that. Leaving Sunday just gets the week started right. Futz around Monday morning instead and half of Monday is shot waiting for them to remember how to turn on the computer.

Picked up a load in Memphis on Thursday doesn’t deliver till Monday 8 am. Sitting at TA in Harborcreek. Family was busy this weekend so no point swinging by house. Going to head to final tomorrow sit there till 8 am start off Monday with 1000 miles and a fresh clock only bright spot to this weekend.

Frick if it was a Heron probably looked like a pterodactyl as it got closer to windshield.

Amen to that 👍

I never swing by home anymore unless I need my computer or files on it. I'm good alone out here.
