The bat cave, part 2

PTA meetings must have changed, over this past century.

boring as all hell, nothing much got accomplished.

the hair pulling cat fights however, were worth drinking the rancid overly brewed strong coffee and eating the stale danish.

i was however glad, i had started night work, shortly thereafter. which then, i came to appreciate, rancid, overly brewed strong coffee......

i guess something good, did come from those PTA meetings after all..???

I worked night shift at the post office for a while. The pay and benefits were awesome, but me being on a different sleep pattern than the rest of my family put a strain on our marriage. One of two things needed to go. The marriage or the job. I quit the post office and went to drive for Wolfpak. Not much better. I was gone 6 days a week. I wanted to become more active in church, but couldn't do it with Wolfpak because they dispatched me out on Sunday mornings. I had a part time job driving a dump truck since I worked at the post office, and decided to work there full time. I took a slight hit in pay at first, but I really enjoy it. I work days only and have most weekends off. Even when I drive semis OTR with that company im home Friday through Monday. Plus it's a small company, owned by a pastor. With me wanting to grow in church, eventually becoming an assistant pastor by the end of this summer, I can fellowship with my boss and dispatchers in a way that I couldn't anywhere else.

i worked as a temp at the post office. 90 day gig.

we were all told (drivers, letter carriers, counter people) no chance in hell anyone will be hired on as regular workers.

so i did my time, i liked it, but had to move on...oh yeah...night work for us drivers.

I am not sure about where you're at but here dump drivers make way more money and the hours are relatively stable.
Work hard in the summer because in the winter you eat what you made in the summer.

That's why I drive a semi during the winter. If my employer can't put me in a semi then I have other options, such as driving for Red Gold and some owner operators.

I was looking at buying a dump truck, Damn they are expensive. You could get a truck and trailer for around the same price and then unless you have some established contacts that dump truck will sit all winter.

We got a new addition to our family yesterday. A kitteh. Darn thing thinks it has to follow me throughout the house. Since yesterday it's been no more than 2 steps behind me.

Been busy since Monday.

Started back in a dump truck. Monday I worked a 14 hour day on a mine. Tuesday I hauled various things. Started the day resupplying rock (state 11's) to an asphalt plant. Then I headed to Cicero for a basement dig, hauling dirt. Ended the day resupplying another asphalt plant with sand. Today I hauled asphalt for I-69 and a residential neighborhood.

I forgot how different dump trucking is. It's a different world.

Delivered asphalt again on Thursday. Got off work early enough to go to church (revival week) an hour early to fellowship with my pastor and our guest speaker (a 78 year old evangelist).

Today I'm on a basement dig. A dozen trucks were on this job, and I served as the lead truck all day (giving drivers directions to dig sites and relaying information). Now I'm the only truck left on the job. Going to be here until around 7 or 8.

Im at the loves in St Paul, IN. Load is going to Cincinnati tomorrow morning, so im in no rush to get there. Going to watch WWE Fastlane tonight and maybe some Walking Dead on Netflix.

Im at the Loves in Dandridge, TN. I prefer to stop at Loves because my employer prefers me to fuel up at Loves. All my points are on my Loves card. A couple hundred dollars worth.

This load delivers in Conover, NC tomorrow morning. Got a pick up in Lenoir, NC that delivers in Joliet, IL, then another pick up in Joliet that delivers to Gas City, IN.

Ill be home thursday night. Since Spring construction season is almost here, im going to work in the shop on Friday and Saturday, helping do oil changes on the dump trucks.

Just now made it back to the yard/shop. This might be the reason why im helping out. The engine from the Prostar i drove last year is going to get put in this dump truck. This should be a fun project.

As late as it is in the morning, im not even going to head home tonight. Ill just sleep in the truck and start turning wrenches at 6. 😊20180316_030935.webp
