Tax Credits, Big Fleet Advantages and APU Prices

That's the same thing I was told too.

I'll go cut one in half and let ya know.

@mndriver where's your truck?

WHAT IS A DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER?

A Diesel Particulate Filter (FAP) is part of the vehicle’s exhaust system. It traps “soot” particles created during the normal operation of the diesel engine. These are the particles which used to be visible from the exhaust pipes of older diesel vehicles as “black smoke”.

WHY IS A DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER FITTED?

In order to meet European emission legislation, it is necessary for all vehicle manufacturers to fit a filter that cleans up the exhaust gasses leaving the engine.

HOW DOES A DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER OPERATE?

The filter is made up of a ceramic core which the exhaust gasses are forced through by the temperature and pressure created as they leave the engine. The “soot” particles are trapped in the filter until a predetermined level is reached. At this point the filter will clean itself by a process called regeneration, which increases the temperature inside the filter and incinerates any trapped soot particles inside the filter.

DOES HOW I DRIVE AFFECT THE PROCESS?

In order to complete the regeneration process the temperature of the Diesel Particulate Filter needs to be increased and maintained. When driving on A-roads and dual carriageways, the temperature and pressure of the exhaust gases is sufficient to complete the process without any assistance. If, however, the vehicle is operated in an urban environment, with frequent stopping and starting of the engine and long periods at idle, the temperature and pressure of the exhaust gases is considerably reduced. In this situation, the filter might not regenerate without assistance from the driver. If this situation occurs the driver is informed by the illumination of a warning lamp and a message in the vehicle’s information screen.

The popular CRT device relies on the principle that particulate matter can be oxidized or "burned off" at lower temperatures in the presence of nitrogen dioxide than in oxygen. It uses two chambers. The first contains a substrate coated with the precious metal platinum. The platinum acts as a catalyst to convert nitrogen oxide in the exhaust stream to nitrogen dioxide by oxidation. The second chamber contains the ceramic filter. When the engine reaches operating temperature and the nitrogen dioxide from the first chamber passes through the ceramic filter, the collected particulate is "burned off". This "burn off" reduces the particle material to gases like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide and various types of inorganic dusts ("ash") such as iron, zinc, copper and calcium oxides.

and after all that mess then your sitting doing a parked regen:stare1:

With an APU, (my current Evolution, and the battery powered A/C on my last truck, I have never done a parked regen than I can remember.

Only did a few with a prior truck that had DEF, but no APU.

My 2010, however, with no DEF, that thing did several parked regens.

oopps I was talking about the truck and not the apu unit:D. and Volvos are good for doing a parked regen!! I think internationals are to unsure about that one. it will be interesting to see if the new Volvos with the def system will want to do a parked regen!!

As California's oppressive "nanny state" passion for over-regulating everything now causes the cost of living to soar beyond the reach of the noble, struggling middle class. Finally this insult will surely drive what's left of the sane away, fleeing in droves

No it won't.

The sheep in California have been conditioned to accept whatever oppressive bullshit the Communist A**holes Regulatory Board (CARB) imposes on them.

They've been brainwashed into thinking it's for their own good.

Is that ....$150,00 total grant funding available or $150,000 available grants?

I'd look it up myself but I'm feeling lazy today.
Total for the whole "project".

It's just a joke intended to give some state Rep the ability to say he did something to help "the environment" during his next re-election campaign.

Does it have a $120,000 Administrator position filled by the reps cousin, and a $25,000 administration assistant (secretary) position filled by said cousins girlfriend?

Tripack is $8,100 and Rigmaster is $7,188 both with DPF. Not sure where you came up with $20k but your wrong. I just looked up both prices. I paid $5,900 for my Rigmaster in 2007.

The Rigmaster price is on Big Rig web page and my buddy just had a Tripac installed on his brand new KW big bunk. I sent him a txt and asked him.
