Swift: Truckers' unionization battle is loaded with controversy

If there is a job out there available, and I need work, I am going to work. That's just how I was raised.

that's right...I'd say most Americans feel that way.
So why would they hire illegals.
And being a American company not hire Americans.

Depending on where you live, you can see many, many lazy ass people who would rather live off a check from the government than hold a job. It's one of the big things I dislike about where I currently live. I am surrounded by lazy asses who simply don't want to work. About the only thing that will get them off their ass to go find some work is when they don't have enough money that week to buy a bottle. Then they likely won't be at that job the next week.

Sounds like where I live. I'm ashamed to say this but I know a lady who has lived off the government for 20 years and hasn't paid rent or NOTHING at all and simply well refuses to work. She rather get high, party, and drink than go to work. :explode::explode:

Dude, I lived in the DFW area for years, and delivered furniture/appliances for Montgomery Ward for quite a while. I can take you to several apartment complexes (Government ran) where many are proud to sit around and not work.

and the funny part is, these people actually get approved for credit! Nothing more fun than going to an old run down house and having to remove the entire door and door facing to get a big screen TV brought inside, while the man inside is telling you that he will be sending it back right after the Super Bowl. Dude doesn't have a job, but he can sit on the couch all morning, watching us bring a TV inside, while drinking a beer that my tax money paid for.

The whole mentality disgusts me.

I can believe that man, that is why I rather live out in the sticks versus a metropolitan area.

I live out in the sticks now, way way out in the sticks.

I wish I did, I live in a small town. I live near St. Louis and I don't even watch the news anymore cause it's all the same crap someone got shot and killed blah blah blah. I get tired of hearing that versus out in the sticks you hear positive stuff. I get tired of all the negative news in the cities that is for sure!

Question to all......
If you lost your job would you be to proud or what ever to work in a chicken plant, dump or fields?

Nope, I like to eat.
As a just released felon in August 2001, I couldn't buy a job. So, off to the labor pool I went. Digging ditches, construction cleanup and cleaning toilets at night for $5.25 /hr.
It took a while, but I've got quite a bit more now, compared to then.
I'm not too proud to work. What pisses me off is the ones who steal for a living. (none of my crimes included stealing of any kind)
You can put all the bank robbers and welfare queens on one side - and they all won't equal one Bernie Madoff or Ken Lay........:boxer:

Which brings be back on topic :headscratch2: to the point in the article about how the Swift guy had money to buy a hockey team in Arizona (?) (and have it go bankrupt) but he's got trouble paying his drivers?:wtf:

It's called making a horrible business decision :) Greed eventually burns everyone who is consumed with it.

There was a driver on Twitter from Swift who was very active and went by the name @A_Smart_Union , I coached him to use Twitter and he had more followers than me, he has not been heard from since July. He was very outspoken on Swift and had a blog. It is very unlike him to drop off the face of the earth the way he did. I am very concerned about his well-being, I did not know all of this was going on at Swift until I saw this post yesterday, even some other Swift Drivers I met on Twitter didn't know about it. I'd sure like to know if my friend Damien is Okay, Any Ideas?

You got one thing right, Greed is the problem on both sides.
Greed is what makes capitalism work and communism fail.
But greed does not build a moral society. Neither does capitalism or communism.
One has nothing to do with the other.
What builds a moral society is the character of it's people.
Economics has little to do with it.

Excellent comment Rebel

Right now we have the screeching rumble of mega-giga-corporations and folks who just want to make a living.

I'm not typically a union supporter in any way, but it sounds to me that Swift is as they say in Missouri "pi$$ing down their backs and trying to convince you that it's raining."

Now to add. Swift has the right to move their operations back to Arizona, if they feel that a union doesn't fit into their business plans.

The union also has the right to do everything they can to try to organize. That's how it is.

It used to be years ago that if one union struck...then the others affiliated with them would follow suit. For example if the Teamsters joined with the Longshoremen, then that could be very interesting.

Bottom line is that Swift is not going to do what they had originally thought they would want to do at those ports.

Sorry to change the subject yall .. but Chae .. is that avatar your REAL truck ? Looks custom done 110% dude !!!!! :peacebanana:

Actually it is, I had a contract a few years ago with Shell Oil the were promoting some new products that required me to run a customized trailer. There request after the first 6 weeks was my old black KW needed to have a skeem with their trailer. I told them as long as it did not look stupid and the funds was not coming out of my pocket for them to knock themselves out. They sent me to a shop in southern San Diego
