Swift: In-Cab Cameras

Hey, y'all, I got Hammer's poke tonight :)

I'm settled in Albuquerque, my favorite city. My job is OK, but I haven't made any progress on a wrenching job. My motivation started flagging, and I haven't really been looking much. I change my mind a lot. Not sure I'm still interested.

I'm not on the Internet much anymore. I dropped out of sight on almost every forum except Facebook. Too much to do in the real world, ya know? ;)
There's our little Miss HottieButt..

Wow to think such comments are coming from mature professional's say's a lot where this industry is going.
Didn't you mean to say, "The stuff young fools like me will accept without squawking foretells a continued erosion of our freedoms, within our industry and our country in general."

Because that's sure what it sounded like!!!

Awesome @Hammer166 . I've said it before and I'll say it again. For all of us veterans, there will be that many more newbies coming into the industry that think this kind of crap is normal, and just part of the job.

It's a damn shame.

Here's a question, many times the U.S. is compared to Europe. Do Euro drivers have to deal with inward facing cameras? Perhaps @Flemming Andersen can weigh in on the matter from the Euro perspective.

I've never heard of one installed in a truck over here ! Busses in larger cities have them, for security reasons, quite a lot of attacks on bus drivers, in certain ghetto areas :(

Ya but the euro's are slamming on brakes and dodging crazies every 10 minutes. Didn't you see the video where mr Flemming was going over the bridge and some jack ball ran the light and Flemming pushed that car back to where it belonged.

Americans are trend setters and the euro's and cannuck's are follower's:usflag:

Dude it's not an erosion your blinders are just coming off. You been eating to much of that America the great bull thunder. Written by dudes in yoga pants and wigs. Wake up America!! Pitts off

I pull an O/Os 2nd truck leased to Swift. I spent 14 mos there as a company driver then I left and went to Melton for 7 mos n mid march I started pulling swift trailers again. Melton implemented the same thing and they had a mass exodus of drivers. I left for other reasons. But I knew my days were numbered because I said no driver facing camera for me. The day they forced that on me would be the day I walked out. It's a shame cpanied think they need a camera in their truck to monitor their drivers. If the camera is facing out to the road, and only technically records when there's a critical event, they have no excuse to have video of the driver because they can see what the critical event is on the dash can. Also what if they adjust the trigger to a low threshold that it will constantly record if u hit a pot hole or miss a gear climbing a hill ( happened to me w Melton and I got a call from safety about it immediately) not to mention that the security system could be hacked. So what are they trying to do ? Turn over their whole fleet if drivers till they find 18000 people willing to be recorded picking their nose and changing clothes ? It's absolutely outrageous. Its redundant and isn't Swift self insured? Hmmm sounds to me like they are trying to pass the buck. If Swift would put their drivers first it would solve many of their problems. Instead they are worried about their shareholders first and drivers last. Easiest way to increase profitability is to reduce turnover. Shame on Swift.

Dude you are a bowl of freaking contradictions!! You said if they put a camera in your truck you would leave!! But then you said they caught you missing a gear or hitting a pot hole. You probably got the call because you were in a parking lot going to fast or your safety department don't have nothing else to do. Really dude how many years is it going to take for you to learn how to shift? Who the heck is changing clothes going Down the highway and if you are stopped why aren't your curtains closed? I wonder about some of you sometimes.:coocoo:

Oh by the way maybe the camera is facing the driver to see if they are the cause of the critical event and they can get rid of the idiot b4 he tears something up!!

Self insured normally works like this a regular insurance covers the 1st
One hundred thousand and the company is on the hook for the rest. If you look in your permit book you will see insurance cards from insurance companies not owned by swift. My company is self insured and we have like 5 different insurance cards normally for different states.

That's actually backwards, Dino. The company covers the smaller claims (up to a the million required by FMCSA,) and carries insurance for the big losses.

And while it's a total hijack, I'm going here anyway.

Since the big companies have gone the self-insured route, it's all but impossible to get them to pay a claim, no matter how much evidence you have. They know your insurance company will pay the claim rather than fight to get it paid, because it's cheaper. They basically reject any claim that has happened on private property. BS, but how it is. Dealt with this 3 different times in last 20 years.

This is why if you're hit in the truckstop, what you will hear from the other company is "Our driver said you pulled into him as he was pulling out."

Welcome to 21st century business ethics...

Correct me if I'm wrong but those cameras are not WIFI connected. They record non stop but only short bursts and stop when an event happens so I'm not sure what the big deal is? Nobody is looking at you. The camera footage is only looked at when a crash or something like it happens.

No they use the cellular network to upload video when critical events occur, or whenever they feel like spying on the driver & send it a signal to make it upload.
