So, my CB is finally hooked up and working.

Picked up the truck in January, been running without it up to this point. Haven’t missed it a bit.

Today, though, I decided to see what I needed to do to get it working.

I had hooked it up once, and no power. I even bought a brand new power cord to hook it up with. But, it didn’t come on when I hooked it up.

Thought maybe they don’t put a fuse in the CB circuit from the factory.

Anyway, after doing some other stuff to the truck, I decided to check the fuse panel. Fuse was there. So, I checked the factory wire with the test light, had power there, but not at the end of the cord.

My brand new fused power cord had a bad fuse in it. It looked perfect (not blown), but it was definitely open. I had physically checked it during my first install attempt, but didn’t have a spare or a test light, so I just assumed there was no power getting there.

It’s just hooked up to the factory cascadia antenna system for now, but at least it works.

I planned on going to San Antonio and getting completely set up there with new antenna, coax, and maybe even a new radio, but not sure if I want to spend any money on that area at this point.

If you only listen and don't transmit you should be fine although performance will still be mediocre at best. (If you do talk on it eventually those finals will be toast.) That factory system is horrible, the 2016 cascadia I drove I ran a 6 foot skipshooter on aftermarket mount.

I had it tilted forward to where it was almost vertical at 65 mph and had a piece of painted pvc pipe to help reinforce the base and minimize flex, and ran aftermarket rg8. That setup performed very well, I got the antenna from Ray in West Memphis. The skipshooter has the best receive of any antenna I have ever tried.

Someone loaded the sea can it was in on the chassis too hard and it snapped it.

Who are you going to talk to?

Hardly anyone. Just need it for the occasion when you can check in to shipping via the radio or for something completely unexpected on the highway. I couldn't care less about finding out which lane is open, but I do want to hear if there is an unexpected traffic jam over the hill that hasn't been there long enough to show up on my GPS or google maps.

And when I see something messed up on a truck or trailer, I like to at least try to let someone know.

Had a guy smoking the brakes down the hill westbound into Albuquerque this week. I know, it's not a bad grade at all. Dude ended up on fire when he got into town.

I've also heard that the guy in the Q5 will only tune a radio to the federally regulated four watts.

Thats been a long time ago so I'm not sure if it's still true or not but...what the hell is he so scared of?

@Shreck that guy in Strattanville sold me a peaked and tuned General Lee 33 watt swing and a Wilson 2000 years ago and actually came outside and set the SWR for me. I recommend that shop also.

I had a similar setup like yours till last week when someone drove it and ran it thru the truck wash without taking the antenna off. I don’t know if I’m going to spend the money and replace it or not. You should see the stuff Bob has for sell in his shop,let’s just say he isn’t politically correct.

That’s probably a good idea. I talked to @Shogun Warrior about this. If it’s Shea’s coco butter lotion you will be fine, but if it’s jergen’s on your hand you run a real risk of electrocution when you key the mic up.
