Fageol

Old acid hauler but not too caustic
I had taken daily chemo for my leukemia from 3/20 through 3/24. I was advised the my hemoglobin and leukocytes (neutropenia) numbers were very low. So I was to limit contact and at the slightest fever or bleeding, to immediately head for any ER. I had additional chemo on 4/3 and at that time was offered a transfusion. Fearing transfusions these days, I refused a transfusion.

Subsequent to that time I seemed to be recovering adequately. But on 4/8, I was felling super weak. That continued to 4/9. On the evening of 4/10, Dana, my fiancée, came by to check on me. She hauled my weak frame to the Elemendorf Air Force Base Emergency Room (this hospital is a joint operation between the Department of Defense and the Veteran's Administration -- the VA provides all my medical needs.

My delay almost cost me my life as I was just circling the drain according to my oncologist. Dana saved me. I didn't get out of the hospital until Wednesday night. In that interval I received 4 units of blood, 2 units of packed cells, plasma, and some other stuff.

It's easy to put-off getting tested and getting care. All I can say is that perhaps my experience will encourage the FR gang to get help early. Of course having a gorgeous fiancée not taking any excuses helps. I sure love my fiancée and I'm still glad to be alive and kicking -- Dana and I have a lot of fishing and traveling to do.

Glad you’re still with us. Hopefully your health improves soon.
Thanks. I'm very glad to be here. Now the boss is making me exercise which might be necessary to build up a greater capacity to take care of myself -- as much as I like Dana here to assist, I know she has a lot of concerns, e.g. she worked on her fingernails for several hours. But I help her with stuff around her beat-up house and other stuff. Given time, the time, skills, etc. of the tasks our efforts in helping one another might equalize and we sure don't keep score. But one cannot ever compensate for the care, attention, comfort, and that too, of a lover.

We can hear the giddiness in your words for her that you have expressed here for some time now, what a find!

Certainly having her around, will make your heart pitter patter and keep the juices (blood) flowing.

I like how you seem to keep enjoying life and not letting the dreaded L word keep you down.

Be well

Hope everything works out get some "Rest" & Let Her Take Care of Ya ya gotta a "Fine" Nurse there ..

Yeah, it's been 3 months since his last visit here. I don't know his name, otherwise, I would know where to sniff around. Last he said, the Chemo was eating him up inside. Not sure if any of those girls he hung out with knew of his presence here.

Went thru chemo my self it is not a great time. Hemoglobin and your iron needs to be watched very close. My oncologist was all up on it constantly sending me in for blood draws weekly. If I was just off or low he had back in a chair with an IV dumping in refills. I hope the best for Fageol. I know it is a bit older than my 66yrs.
