Question about medical cards.

Hey guys, I’m having a hard time figuring out which box up at the top of the medical card needs to be checked if you’re driving in multiple stares.

I guess I’ve just never paid attention to which one of those top boxes have always been checked but two years ago when I got my last medical card, I noticed that they had checked the second box which is pretty much the same as the first box except for that added in part in parentheses where it says valid for intrastate operations only.

Doesn’t that mean that’s only for driving in one state? If that means what I think it means then the several times were I’ve crossed out of Oklahoma into Texas has been illegal… LOL

Yeah, intrastate only means only in the state you are licensed to drive in. Getting caught outside that state would be an immediate shutdown.

Yeah, I was pretty sure I knew what the difference was between interstate and intrastate but is that pretty much what it’s saying on the medical certificates?

At the top of my medical card, right below where they printed my name, those two parts after where it says in accordance with, please check only one, are the first two options; the last time I got my medical card, the second option is the one they checked and the part I put in bold is what I’m questioning.

in accordance with (please check only one):

1—the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR 391.41-391.49) and, with knowledge of the driving duties, I find this person is qualified, and, if applicable, only when (check all that apply) OR….

2—the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR 391.41-391.49) with any applicable State licenses (which will only be valid for intrastate operations), and, with knowledge of the driving duties:

The DOT doc that did last years physical checked the wrong box on the Med Cert and I played hell trying to get it changed. He checked the INTRASTATE box by mistake and being as Florida is a self-certification state, they kept kicking it back and sent me a letter saying that my license would be suspended if I didn't correct it, or leave it as Intrastate only.

I left it Intrastate only and my boss came unglued. He called the doc and told him to fix it, NOW!
