Pay Cut?

As long as the two tires on each side of the axle are the same height, you're good to go. The differential will account for the different tire height on each side - and the consequent rotational speed difference.
You'll wear out your differential eventually.

And if you have a diff lock, you'll probably tear it up real quick

Yah I don't have a CB.

My CB helped me

Have a heads up about three different accidents/spun out tractors blocking the road driving Wednesday night up towards Laramie
Have a heads up about 12 different accidents/dead tractors/etc requiring a bob and weave yesterday
Have a heads up about a rollover with lane blockage around a blind corner following cresting a summit, a wide oversize that was coming onto the freeway then subsequently passing me with a large overhang in my direction today

Eat lunch with multiple good people who BS'ed for miles
Have a good time BS'ing with other company drivers running convoy with me for 4 days straight
Fire up people complaining about drivers or people at fuel stations (I'm always taking my 30 in the fuel stand... on the radio ;) )
Make fun of CB Rambos

Provide a heads up about all of the above situations for surrounding drivers as I relay the information I hear

But you're scared of regional/full OTR, so a CB is of little use to you anyway as you'd just hear the same truck stop BS. Which can be fun, if you're just in the truck stop for a day. Parked at a stop in Illinois somewhere and about 10 drivers were having a conversation, then we all went in and continued it around the dinner table. Good times, building some driver camaraderie.

my particular route is all at night, on lonely highways, and what trucks are out there, they don't talk to anyone

sometimes you get one that is a motor-mouth and cannot shut up,. i shut him up about saying i fully approve of abortions....somehow after that, his exit "comes up".....nice and quiet after that

when i did run the road, especially the I-95 corridor north and south, i too gave out reports, never got too many back, so i stopped

Does he?

Is it really a life working a 12-hour shift, loosing another hour or more to driving to/from work. Doing that 5 days a week and being so worn out you can't enjoy your weekends? Got friends that struggle just to get a 3-day weekend to go camping. Most times, they arrive after 11 pm dead to the world, still need to set up camp and end up pulling an all-nighter just to be semi comfortable and then have to go back to work in the same conditions.

Because that's the "life" society preaches us to have.

Friend of mine was very good at getting me to see that isn't life. It's existing.

Living is being able to see your message grow up, sharing with them and helping them expand themselves.

Being gone part time from their lives doesn't make you a bad parent. Especially when you can provide for your families needs and well-being.

If he's found a gig that gives him that satisfaction, great. It sounds like he has.

His needs and desires aren't mine. Nor mine his. Or likewise for anyone else.

It may seem contrary to another thread we seems to be beating each other up over, but there are two different topics being addressed.

i think he said this new job is very close to his house..???

It's still 20 minutes one way on a good day.

So, 40+ minutes at the least amount. Add in bad weather.

Sorry I over estimated......

Old job was 1.7 miles each way. New job is 12 miles each way almost all interstate highway. House I'm looking to buy is 3.1 miles each way.

I'm single and get paid vacation. A week my first year, 2 weeks my second, more as I stay. I'm not worn out on my weekends. Fridays roll around and I can't even sleep. Hours are long but not hard.

There isn't much I wanna do on weekends anyway though. Never was a partier or bar guy.

mine is 70 miles, round trip. but then too as i have said in the past, i work well under 45 hours per week. it's just difficult to get sleep during the day time hours, so "cat naps" work best for me...

my g/f's cat doesn't like it when i steal one of his naps.....but then too, i don't like it when he's on my blanket.....

I'd have a harder time being out for weeks at a time then home for a few days or even a week. Yeah you'd have more consecutive time off, but I'd get bored at home and then I'd be wanting to drive my pickup sooo bad I'd get homesick. Lol.

45 hours a week would be pretty sweet. I used to work 60 in a warehouse between Halloween and New Year's. It was mandatory.

60 in a truck is easy by comparison.
it is, but it is also a "modified" salary, so no chance of pay raises until a new contract. but, i have been doing dedicated for many years now, and would rather have a consistent paycheck, then wondering how many miles i gotta run this week over last week, and if they even have freight. at least, we do not sit, (except on our weekends), we show up for work, our trailers are either already loaded, or being loaded, and we're off to our stops.

weather, traffic, accidents, construction are about the only things that can turn a 45 hour week into a few more hours.......

Same. I've had one live unload in the past two months, and it took half an hour. Everything else is drop & hook. I can't call my checks consistent yet. I'm getting more and more efficient at the various locations and even in the railyard so they're actually rising. But they'll taper off and I'll have regularity within a load or two.

Yesterday they hooked me up with a sweet little run. Over 100 miles we get extra pay. I went to a customer with a load so that was my load pay plus mileage plus the extra. Then they had me come right back out of the same place with a load, so that's another load pay plus mileage plus extra. Ended up doing 4 loads for $425 that day and 1 hour left on my clock.

Not bad for a company man.

This thing is awesome. Fresh lunch meat and colllllld water.
