Pay Cut?

Would you take a small pay cut if it meant consistency and home time?

I'm considering Schneider Intermodal. I make good money right now if I work hard-ish but I'm usually running 12 days in a row in a day cab. If I'm "lucky" I burn my hours enough to get a reset somewhere during those 12 days to make it 11 in a row, but still these day cabs beat your ass.

Also, I don't get paid time off and Schneider offers that plus better medical/dental. The Schneider options are day cab 4 on & 3 off or regional sleeper 5 on & 2 off for a little more cash.

If I like it and stay I'd end up earning more than I do now but I risk a lower paycheck at first, depending how I can do.

yes, i would, if i were as young as you, and no bills/house to pay for..???

as you age, you will slow down, it's inevitable anyway's.

best start slowing down now, get used to being a lazy fat ass like the rest of us.

Bahahaha. I'm 35 so I'm not as young as some of these guys. But I'm buying a house as we speak. I like home time because I work on my vehicles (have 4 so far).

I'm young in the career though so yeah I figure 14 months in is a good time to start at the bottom so to speak.

Sadly I could have had this job as a newbie but hindsight is 20/20.

I've made as much as $1800 in a week here but I had to play with the elogs to accomplish it. And it damn near killed me. Most weeks are $1500 on the high side and $900 on the low side unless I call off for whatever reason or a load I was supposed to take drops and I have to go home.

Kinda sucks when you have four kids (Ford, Lincoln, Pontiac, Chevrolet) at home waiting for you and you can't really see them for what basically amounts to two weeks. Lol.

I mean 60k as a newbie is fantastic but what you gotta do for it kinda sucks and there's no UP here. Everyone is paid the same from Day 1 and experience doesn't mean anything pay wise. Great when you're new (as opposed to a fresh Swift roadie making 36k) but makes you think once you're in it a bit and realize this is it.

give up the kids for adoption. sure they may hate you forever and ever, but you gotta live too, that's what i'd do..!!!

like i said, sooner or later you're gonna slow down. my job (i may have mentioned it several time ago) i work about a 40 to 45 hour week, home weekends. as a result i can get things done here at my house, the current job you have now, you know you have nearly no time, when you get home.

what does it get down to? time for yourself and home and hobbies, or the 4 kids at home crying they don't get to see you all that often.

so, adoption, or move onto a better job situation you can have a home life for.

and if you do give up your 4 kids for adoption, you can always father more.

geeze brother don't be so blunt lol:D. why give the kids up for adoption hell make em get jobs :roflmao:

I could make twice what I make now...
but not easily.

I'm off weekends & holidays and home through the week.

I'd nearly have to be hungry before I'd go back OTR.
And by OTR I mean not knowing where the next load will take you.
I do more or less the same runs all the time.
No dicking around on the other end waiting to see what comes up, no laying over because a load fell through or canceled, etc.

I hate local work with a passion so out n back runs suit me very well.
I was loaded and rolling within an hour after waking up this morning and on this end it's nearly always D&H.

If you're fairly certain the pay cut won't be substantial it's not even a question...

Well, I did luck out with this job because it is already local and it's dedicated so there's not a lot of bullshit involved. The problem really is just with the schedule and benefits.

The NJ memorial shit-kickin' choir is about to convene...
All rise...
[BTW, Harry Chapin was killed in a grocery-truck accident on the LIE in case you didn't know]

No the thread isn't pointless. Lol. It's going from one local job to another, that's all. The pay cut would be for a better schedule and benefits.
sometimes frankly, a lateral move isn't worth the time, trouble and effort one puts into it.

however, when put into perspective on the end results, like more home time, better schedule and future earnings, a lateral move is best done, when the opportunity strikes, as it may only strike once.

@Injun needs to edit out the part in dchawk's post about the kids being cars so your post will make you look horrible.

C'mon it'll be funny. :D
