Obesity Epidemic

And don't even get me started on the pharmaceutical companies.

Do you remember about 10 or 15 years ago when all of a sudden it became "the norm" for heart patients to start taking low dose aspirin every day?

That happened as a result of some kind of consumer advocacy group that discovered that a blood thinner drug some pharmaceutical company was charging something like $200 a pill for was actually chemically identical to aspirin. Word got out and I think even insurance companies refused to keep paying for it. (It was either $200 a pill, or $500 a pill, I don't remember, it's been so long.)

Health care is all about that. Ever go to a doctor without insurance and later go back to the same doctor with insurance? Unless you are a sick puppy, it might be cheaper to not even have insurance.

I wonder if you could tell them you don't have insurance, then when you get the bill, be like "oh yeah, .. I DID have insurance, .. I just plain forgot about it" and see if they change the bill at that point.

Then why not "pig out". Life has no guarantees!!! LOL. Some folks find food comforting :)

And therein lies the problem. We have a lot of ppl suffering from depression who do find the love and comfort they need with food. What do we do with a kid who just gets a shot at the drs office? We give them a lollipop. They got hurt so we show them we still love them with a sweet. How does mom show you she loves you, she fixes a big turkey dinner with all the fixings when you go there to visit. Very rare for mom to set a plate of lettuce in front of you and give you a big hug and say "this is for you because I love you" It is more like a big slice of chocolate cake.

Obese ppl run the risks of heart disease and diabetes moreso than the average size person. Ppl are coming into the hospital all the time to get the stomache stapling and gastric banding in order to lose weight and get their other diseases under control that were caused by them gaining so much weight to start with. Insurance companies are paying for this because the longterm care on obese ppl in more costly.

Then you have ppl who have thyroid conditions and even with medications still cannot seem to get their weight under control. I hear ppl say how could that man or woman allow themselves to gain all that weight and get so big? Well sometimes ppl cannot always control what is happening to them. How about ppl with heart problems who are holding fluids. How about ppl who get organ transplants who have to take all kinds of medications in order to not reject the new organ....they can gain weight just from having to take those meds.

With working in a hospital I have seen both sides of the spectrum and I do not judge ppl who are overweight because there is a story behind it.

You gotta learn to love ppl for who they are and not what they look like!

As for the government trying to tell ppl what to eat and when to exercise......when they took recess out of school for kids they taught young kids that it is okay to sit for an entire day with only perhaps a 30 minute gym class 3 times a week. Thanks government that really taught our kids to exercise! When they allowed the school lunches to become nasty little meals that cost a fortune they screwed up. I grew up in a predominately PA dutch area and when I went to school we had a big lunch, not that little piece of cardboard pizza they serve now. My mom fixed big meals because we lived on a farm. We fed calves before going to school and had farm chores when we got home. We ate a lot, but I am not obese and do not find my love in food. Most jobs now have ppl sitting all day long at a computer desk with little option to exercise.....sort of like being at school?

We need more lions and tigers! We need more adversity or at least challange in our lives. I seriously doubt people, way back when, were fat. Most of all, we need persoanl responsibility. If you are a phat phuck, unless some one is holding you down and shoveling food into your mouth, it is 100% your fault. Get off your lazy azz and do something about it. I'm not into this psycho babble, I see cause and result, very simple, you take in more calories than you burn, you get fat! What is so hard to understand?

Insurance should be used for catastrophic emergencies! Not routine doctor visits, birth control and little boo boos. Our health care system is being abused by people who demand more and more with less and less responsibility.

You have car insurance, does your insurance cover oil changes, tune ups, wiper blade changes? Hell no! That isn't what insurance is for. It is for that major wreck you have that cost thousands of dollars.

Quit abusing the system and we will be OK!

Remember to vote these idiots out of office this November and we, hopefully, be back on the path to recovery!

Vote early and vote often! You don't need no stinkin' ID!

Return to the Constitution and we will be great again!

I recently busted a physical because of blood sugar. Over 1000 and A1C of 15plus. Okay, I get it and have taken the changes I have to take.

But what hurt was hopping up on the scale and seeing that 5'8" and 204 pounds is OBESE. Come on, obese means that you are to fat for me to .... I am still hot. And yes there are hippos down here in denial.
