You know what I meant by that.
When I had my own trucks, I sent a guy over to Naples, FL., to pick up a 345 on the beam trailer. He leaves Naples, heading back over to the East Coast to drop it off at the Cat House for service. He pays his toll on Alligator Alley and as he leaves the toll booth, like a jack ass, he just has to try and keep with the traffic out of the booth weighing about 200,000 pounds or more. I forget what a Cat 345 weighs, but it's a damned heavy machine.
His truck is a 1997 Pete 379, 310" W/B, a tuned C-16 600 Cat, RTX 18918 X-H and 390's. He thinks he can run it like a 10 speed, simply forgetting about the first 5 splits and as he leaves the toll booth, figured he'd leave them a drive shaft as an additional toll present. The equipment was late getting to the shop, I had to drive 110 miles with another drive shaft that I pulled from another of my trucks and put it in, in the middle of the road. That damned thing had to weigh over 100 pounds. It twisted right before the spline.
He drove my pick up back and I drove the truck. I deducted it all from his final check that he got when I got back to the yard. Lesson learned. Give a driver a neutered truck that he can't break. Second lesson learned. Keep one truck for myself and get rid of the rest. All you do in the end is keep an idiot in a paycheck.
