might be really close to joining the owner operator world again

Splitting the 10 hour break into 8 hours in the sleeper and two hours off duty.

They require us to take a full 10 consecutive hours off.
Oh ok, I should have picked that up on the different spelling on brake and break. Ya I don't and wont split my break. I take the ten. Even a company i worked for said do not split your break.

I wish they'd scrap that 8/2 split rule.

I'm glad they got rid of the 5/5 split. If you CAN do it, they'll REQUIRE you to do it. That 5/5 split option was one of the reasons I quit Roadway. It takes me 5 hours just to fall asleep in a moving single-drive axle, leaf spring piece of shit driven by a jackass who won't stay off the rumble strip. After a few sleepless turns out to CA & back, or to the east coast & back, I said "no more" and started cheating on my log books to keep my available hours too low so they wouldn't send me on those sleeper runs. We weren't allowed to use the 34 reset because the Teamsters gets to collect more member dues that way, but it worked out good for me because I was able to keep my hours low.

I'd log everything non-driving as ON DUTY, even if I was parked at a truck stop eating lunch. And I'd always log driving at 55 mph, sometimes I'd arrive back at the home terminal a full two hours before the log pages I handed in said I was there, just because I'd throw in a two hour lunch break ON DUTY just to waste hours. They didn't even scrutinize that shit because when I was paid hourly, it was by time-clock and not the log book. I'd even log my 45 minute drive home in my car as ON DUTY. I'd also show 30 minutes for a pre-trip. ANYTHING to avoid being sent in a team-truck because 90% of those union pukes wanted to run 5/5 splits all the way to CA & back.

The hours of service where created to protect drivers. Drivers would screw themselves by falsifying logs. The never ending day and splitting your sleep was just stupid and dangerous. We are getting closer to what ever drivers keeps bitching about. Working hours like the other 99% work and they are still bitching about that.

Relax take your mandated time off, Don't have a heart attack. We have it far better than our forefathers that ran coast to coast sleeping between the seats on a board. We are not jacked up on amphetamines. Home time is getting better.

They pay sucks. But, baby steps.

Yeah well they should not worry about the hos and get there heads out of there asses and concentrate on something that makes sense like training the noobs and doing inspections on training company's every so often

I like the split break, but it's not a big deal for me.

Also learned today that cell phones while driving are a violation of company policy, even hands free. Guess that gets me out of having to answer their phone calls during the day....

orientation is wearing me out, and it has only been a day. we actually had a 45 minute class on reading the permit book. I literally nodded out during this class twice. It's a simple book with a table of contents, organized by state, and our little class of 12 actually had questions about the permits.

They have a unique way of doing everything. Tomorrow, during a 90 minute road test, I get to learn a new procedure for hooking and unhooking a trailer.

I guess they have to be this way, given the lack of experience that Many of their drivers have.

I like my 8/2 splits....I wouldn't want to lose them.

I'd like to go back to 8 hours off between shifts.....10 hours is a waste of time.

Oh my!!! Wondering how you were tagged and sent to the remedial class. LOL

I needed to ride on the special bus today.

Finished up orientation late yesterday, which meant I was looking for freight at a bad time late last night. Decided I would just grab a load going close to my house, take a 34, deliver it Monday, and get going full speed at this from there.

So......

I grabbed an empty trailer from the yard, drove 100 miles, and blew a freaking steer tire. I guess I needed to be initiated immediately, LOL.

Per @Mike 's instruction, I've edited the tags to this thread.

And because posting this reply will bring me to the end of the thread rather than having to read a lot of inane crap about @Duck 's kitchen cabinets. Otherwise it's kinda hard to find the button to go to the first unread post in this Xenforuororurm thing.

I'll alert @Mike to save you a seat on the short bus.......
