"Live Load" For real!

So I actually had to deliver this thing.

The story goes it was a drop and hook at a dock. Apparently the guys left the roll door open at some point, just enough time for the coon to stowaway. When I grabbed the trailer Monday morning I did a quick peek at the half laden trailer not realizing a coon was on board.

A quick jaunt just 8 miles to the destination for a round trip I docked the trailer for "live" unload and reload. As the guys were unloading me to their surprise they spot the coon hiding amongst the freight (empty totes and cleaning products). The frightened coon ran to the nose of the trailer and climbed to the top using the wooded back for traction.

We tried to get that thing off by having me position the trailer towards a treeline hoping it would eventually leave, but after 40 minutes it would not. We decided it may be best to let it out where we picked it up. Besides I had my extra trailer there so we could use that to complete the round trip.

So I actually had to deliver the coon back to its original location 8 miles away. So I took it there dropped the trailer in a far corner with the door open grabbed my other dropped trailer and went back for the reload. Thankfully when I got back to the original location, the coon was long gone.

How many truckers can say that they actually delivered a wild critter! Check ✓sdelivery.webpttl.webp

Can't say I delivered a wild critter. We did have one crawl into a docked trailer during the night. just like your critter he took refuge in the front of the trailer behind the freight.
The company had a pest control guy, and he set a trap with canned sardines as bait. The racoon got the sardines without going into the trap (they are smart). I think it was about two days we waited for him to leave.

That's actually my second run-in with a coon. First one happened just three years earlier while we were helping another local company just down the road.

They picked me to take a trailer away from their cross docks with a coon in it to set it at the edge of the lot.

For some reason they say racoons love marshmallows of all things. Looks like I may have to try that next time.

I think you did the correct thing by taking the trailer back to where the raccoon entered it.

If you'd have successfully gotten it out of the trailer where it was discovered, it would be in unfamiliar territory and probably have trouble adapting.

Good thing it was only 8 miles. That wouldn't be an option if it was hundreds of miles.

I never would have figured marshmallows as a racoon's favorite food. I haven't met many racoons, and I'd like to keep it that way. Those claws look like they could do some serious damage.

One night I heard this horrible shreaking & growling like something in a really good horror movie, coming from outside, combined with a high pitch screaming.

I didn't know what it was, I figured it had to be some kind of wild animal. But just in case it was a coyote, I brought my Thompson with me when I went outside with a flashlight to investigate.

When I shined the light up in the direction of the noises, they stopped, and all I saw was a raccoon up in a tree, looking at me, then after a few seconds, a mutilated squirrel fell out of the tree, still flopping around because it wasn't dead yet.

I shot the squirrel but not the raccoon, because it's pretty reckless firing a gun upwards into a tree when you don't have a clear daylight view of where the rounds will go if you miss.

Then I went in the house and searched YouTube for the sounds that raccoons make when they're fighting, and that's exactly what I heard. It was the raccoon attacking the squirrel.

One of those videos also showed a pit bull at the vet's office getting it's face stitched up after an encounter with a raccoon.

I guess raccoons aren't to be messed with. 😳

They are currently living in both of my century-old wooden barns.

Wait until you run into a Canadian goose. You can honk the horn, drive at them and they don't give a shit. They give you that fuck you! look as they take their sweet ass time crossing the road. you really just want to hit them They really are assholes!
But then comes spring when the babies hatch and they all walk single file behind Momma and Daddy at the back, you are like OMG they are adorable.

Kind of passive aggressive if you ask me and no one ever does but, I say what I say.

The most interesting thing I almost hit was up in Nothern Californa past Redding and Weed.

A momma "Bear" crossed the highway and here cubs follwed her ran across the highway too.

Luckily I was going slow enough in the mountains I was able 2 stop let them cross the road.

Now Arkansas I-30 the deer were standing on the highway.

I tried slow down even pulled my train horn cord.

It looked at me and I hit it

Pulled on shoulder busted my fog light cracked the plastic bumper was a VOLVO 670 cab

I was still moving didnt punch my radiator.

I called dispatch sent them pictures off my phone and told me keep going well fix ya up when ya get to Texas.

I also called 911 gave them my location and Mile Markers so they could send somebody remove the deer carcass off the highway

This happened somewhere inbetween Little Rock and Texarkana about 2 am in the morning
