Lethal Injection

Moreover, death in itself is an escape, and an expensive one for the rest of us at that. Contrast that with the certainty of staring at those walls, bars - day after day, for all the long years to come, the nights, unrelenting...
It's only expensive because of the appeals process.

I say if they're guilty beyond a shadow of doubt, and there's no possible way the evidence could have been tampered with, the conviction is based on overwhelming physical evidence, not circumstantial or from witness testimony, they oughta just take them out in the prison yard & put a couple of hollow points in their heads immediately after the jury foreman reads the verdict.

But that would probably only be about 1% of cases though. It's pretty hard to be 100% positive someone is guilty. Even witness testimony is useless.

My dad told me about experiments with people in recent years. They'll have a bunch of random people, inform them that they're test subjects in a psychological experiment but lead them to believe the experiment is something like memorizing cards & numbers & stuff.

Instead they'll get them all in a waiting room & after a few minutes, two actors among them will fake an argument, then a fist fight. Either the psychologists or other actors will pose as cops & take everyone from the room out for a private interview asking them what happened & who took the first punch. It turns out half of them got it wrong, and surprisingly, the ones who got it right weren't 100% positive they were remembering it right but were "pretty sure". Most of the ones who got it wrong were also saying they were 100% positive that what they remembered was correct.

The experiment was repeated using different groups of test subjects, and different actors. They'd have tests where the two actors faking the fight were radically different, as in a different race, body size, age, & sometimes one of them would be dressed like a street thug & the other would be dressed like he's in church. They'd have the churchy-looking actor be the aggressor & take the first punch, but the majority of the witnesses would recall that the actor dressed like a thug started it & took the first punch. The little guy would initiate a physical fight with a big guy, but most of the witnesses would say the big guy took the first swing.

I saw a TV show of an experiment done on unknowing test subjects. They carried them out like a hidden camera show. They had a clean cut, attractive looking male actor reach out & grab a sexy female actor's butt & she jumped & screamed "pervert", but they had a scruffy looking ugly male actor standing just as close to her as the actor who actually grabbed her butt. Actors posing as police ran in & ask the witnesses who grabbed her butt & most of them said it was the ugly guy, sometimes even when the "victim" actress pointed at the better looking actor. Then they reviewed the videos shot from multiple angles, and in the videos some of the victims weren't even looking in the actors' direction until after the female actress screamed & got their attention, but the "witnesses" still tell the actors posing as police that it was the uglier of the two male actors who did it. Very few of the witnesses who in fact, didn't actually see it happen, admitted that they didn't see it.

The results of the experiment was basically that people's memories totally suck but they'll either subconsciously, or willingly fill in blanks in their memories & falsely accuse people based on stereotypes the two actors were portraying by their acting and/or physical appearance.

Dang! What we've got here is a hangin' Duck!

So, let's suspend the rights of the convicted for an expeditious termination for the convenience of the self-proclaimed righteous among us? Kinda puts "due process" right in the crapper, huh?

Huh? Due process is the trial.

I was just listening to the news and the supreme court taking up Oklahoma law with regards to cruel and unusual punishment.

Anyways, with all these botched executions with it taking hours to kill them and the person in pain and so on and so on.

Even I know that Propofol or Sodium Pentothal given in the right dose will put you to sleep very nicely so you don't wake up.
You don't know what the condemned is going thru while being administered with these drugs. One drug paralizes you, while the other 2 drugs are going thru his veins he could be in horrendous pain.

Why yes, I do actually. Sodium Pentothal puts you to sleep and you must be intubated or you don't wake up and die. Very peaceful.

Propofol puts you to sleep. Too much and you don't wake up. Also very peaceful. Ask Michael Jackson!

You're not laying on the gurney, you don't know exactly what they go thru, none of us do.

You're right. And I, for one, don't GAF. They didn't care about what their victims went through without anything to help. If it's been proven the asshat did it, death should be as peaceful and painless as it was for their victim.

As far as pleading, you would be surprised how many of these people are so arrogant that even when there is irrefutable proof they committed a heinous murder, they will still take their chances with a jury, thinking they can charm their way out of it.

100% agree

I hit the like button because I agree when u said u don't GAF,for the most part I don't either. What I hate along with a million others is we pay for them living on death row for 10 plus yrs. They're going to be put to death anyway,it should be done within the first yr.

Either that or when the third appeal fails. I don't mind giving the innocent a chance to prove it...but you dam well better provide sufficient evidence to say otherwise.
In the truck driving business...this is otherwise known as C.Y.A

Texas does have a program like there. Express lane to death row. Especially when it's highly witnessed and no doubts in place.

The reason we have lethal injection as an execution method is because we have tried to 'sanitize' the process. So it seems like the prisoner is going to sleep not dying. No blood or gore, no burning smell, no struggling on the end of a rope, no laying on the ground gasping for breath because the bullet hasn't hit the right part of the body. It is as much for the benefit of the executioner and the guards as it is for the prisoner.

Probably the guillotine or the measured drop hanging (British style) are the most efficient and fastest methods of execution. But most people - including the armchair executioners on here - don't want to deal with that reality. And neither do the guards, the witnesses, the lawyers and all the other execution 'spectators".

And although the general public tends to be supportive of the death penalty, I wonder how many might change their minds if they actually had to watch a human being die on the end of a rope, in the electric chair or have their head severed by the guillotine.

Personally, I don't think that the death penalty has a place in civilized society. I believe that life without parole is an effective punishment with the added benefit that there is a way out if the courts have got it wrong

If it's been proven the asshat did it
My support for the death penalty lies in that word: proven.

And I mean "PROVEN", ... not "three witnesses who can't remember what they ate for breakfast said they saw him do it". I mean scientific proof, that has also been proven not to have been planted or tampered with by the police. Or a confession that was videotaped, with a lawyer present, and not under duress.

I have zero trust in the criminal justice system. Even when they say "DNA", if I was on the jury I'd completely disregard it unless it was explained how it was collected, who compared it to the samples from the crime scene, who had access to the crime scene before the forensics people got there, and I'd question the trustworthiness of the forensics people too, since they work with police & prosecutors & they're all on the same team.

But if I was satisfied it was 100% scientific proof of guilt, I'd say toss 'em to the wolves. And if the crime was extremely heinous, such as, ....torturing & killing children, multiple homicides, or large scale human rights violations (tyrannical politicians & dictators like Hitler, Mao, Saddam, etc), the method chosen should be the slowest & most painful they can think of.

Just turn 'em loose in general population... problem solved.

You know.... There used to be the option of join the army instead of jail. Admittedly for minor offences, but why not for major offences as well?

Issue a set of dog tags, a uniform, a parachute and whatever rifle the armourer figures they can most afford to lose.

Kick them out over ISIS run Syria and let THEM do the execution.

Seriously tho, I'm sure that outsourcing executions to somewhere like the Saudis or Indonesia would getthem done cheaply and efficiently.

The Indos popped the Bali Nine smugglers nice and neatly.
