I got a new compaq from best buy for $300.00. It came with the ability to detect and connect to wireless networks....

I had Dell custom build one to my exact specs for $1,800. They are pretty quick about it. The UPS man showed up with it about 2 weeks after ordering it. If you get a standard one then it's only a few days rather than the 2 weeks.

They had some pretty descent laptops for $500 or so for a brand new one.

As for internet, I just use a Aircard from Sprint. $50 a month for it

holy crap dude !! $50.00 a month ?! We are paying $30.00 a month at HOME for high speed internet ... why such a huge price hike for that card ???:dunno:

I assume you mean Wi-Fi... So, how's that working out for you? I just can't justify the monthly air card bill to get on line while out in the truck. However, every time I turn around I see Wi-Fi.

Can you (do you) ever hi-jack a signal from a shipper/receiver, or, any other business that may not be knowingly providing signal to the general public.

I'm asking 'cause I've got enough fuel points to buy a Netbook from Petro, and, it comes with Wi-Fi included, whatever that means.

It's always been that price. Actually used to be 59.99. I don't mind paying for the mobile coverage and use anywhere I want to use it. Don't have to worry about finding wifi anymore!

Just a thought, but given economic times are still rough, you might want to scan through your local Craigslist.org postings. I've a friend who managed to get a "near-new" gaming laptop a few months back for around $2,700. The seller had bought it for close to $4,200 (the invoice was still in the box). Also, last year my brother found a replacement for his laptop when the screen died for less than it would have cost him for a repair and new screen.

I've been looking myself and just missed out one still in the box that was almost 40% less than what it was at Office Depot. Still, you do have to be careful about these things. I've bought power tools this way and most have been exactly as billed, others not, so make sure to have a chance to look the thing over closely.

Yep! I'm talking Wi-Fi. I can detect and connect to most of the TS ones, but the signal quality varies alot. Plus you have to pay for the privilege.

PS...I got my laptop for 300.00 at Best Buy. Brand New Compaq Presario!

I can hi-jack sometimes off a Wendys, or a Hardys. Some of those are free. I eventually went with an air card from Verizon, as often as I get online its probably cheaper than the $4.95 for 24hrs that most places want.
Actually I just did the math...My air card is about a third the cost if I paid for Wi-Fi.
