Just get a can of wasp spray.

No matter whether you are legal in the states or not......

A large portion of the places you pick up and deliver freight have rules against weapons

Many trucking companies have policies against guns, so again the law becomes irrelevant.

What the company doesnt know wont hurt them. If I went otr, I would absolutely carry on the truck, regardless of company policy. The worst they can do is fire you.

I drive for a very good (small) company. I get paid very well to drive their truck and move their freight. They have a policy prohibiting firearms in their trucks. Their trucks, their rules.

And many places I pick up and deliver to also have policies prohibiting firearms (and some also prohibit any weapons).

I would be a fool to have such a cavalier attitude about my job for a perceived risk that does not really exist.

Really? A BB gun or a pellet pistol?

Yeah, that might distract a guy. And it will **** him off too. Then the mother****er will take your toy away from you and beat you severely with it.

Oh, and it will still be an assault with a firearm on your part.

Lol at doesnt really exist. What was it like growing up in Mayberry?

A BB gun is not a firearm.

There's no "fire", therefore it's not a firearm. Some might argue that it's a "deadly weapon" but so is a frozen loaf of bread if you want to get technical.

I am a solo female driver and have run all over the Lower 48 for five years. In all that time, I have only ever been in a single situation that might have turned sideways if I hadn't had my wits about me. It did not happen in any of the "likely" spots. Rather, it was near a place that could much more accurately be called "Mayberry."

I have not carried a firearm on the road with me for the purpose of self protection. I have not needed it. I have stayed in places "notorious" for crime rates. Yes, even the Pilot in the south end of Atlanta. I have no problem walking across the street to Love's BBQ. (Good food!) I have spent the night in downtown Chicago, Philadelphia, Compton...you name the notoriously crime ridden urban area, I have probably been there. Truck stops are usually in bad neighborhoods of these areas.

If you treat people with respect, do everything you do with confidence and stay visibly aware of your surroundings, I can almost guarantee you will not have problems on the road.

The snarky comment about "Mayberry" was a bit uncalled for.

Doesnt change anything. People still have the right to protect themselves. Situational awareness can only do so much.

Your logic is flawed. Just because you havent
been robbed, and most people havent been robbed, doesnt mean it doesnt happen.

Ive never been in an accident, but I still wear my seatbelt.

My logic is not flawed. I do what works for me. I choose to lead my life in such a way as to not be ready to draw down on my own shadow. Don't think for a minute that I can't protect myself if I need to. I am no victim.

I am not anti gun. I own guns myself. I'm not against responsible people enjoying the liberty to choose gun ownership or to use the right to bear such arms. Personally, I believe the restricting laws on the books right now go too far.

But I also know a person is much more likely to be shot with his or her own firearm than some random criminal's gun. Additionally, unless you already have your weapon drawn and pointed at me, I have a knife in my hand and am within 21 feet of you, I will have that blade in contact with some portion of your skin before you can clear leather with that gun. Skeptical? Try it with your friends.

Way to contradict yourself. You say you dont live your life ready to draw down on your own shadow, then proceee to tell me how you are ready to draw your knife at any time. Makes sense.

Not to mention claiming people who carry guns are "ready to draw down on their own shadow" is an extremely ignorant statement, as is claiming that people are more likely to be shot by their own weapon.

You claim to be pro gun but sure babble on like a Brady drone.

I never said the owner would be the one to shoot him or herself. When it comes time to actually draw down on somebody with a firearm and make the decision to take human life, there is almost always a hesitation. Some people find they can't do it at all. So now, they are standing there with a gun pointed at another human being and a stupid look on their faces, willing with their logic to press the trigger, but a block of some kind preventing it. Unless you're a hardened criminal or a sociopath, that hesitation will be there.

Where do you read I even carry a knife? If you really want to know where the information comes from, check out the NRA or attend the academy, like I did. Police officers are trained to approach a person with a knife in hand with a drawn weapon. And now you know why "citizens" who wave knives at police officers wind up getting shot and killed...by someone mentally and physically trained to take such action.

Do not pleasure yourself, Hondo, over the idea you think you can judge a person's entire value base on two statements. I am completely in favor of gun ownership and concealed carry. I believe a society in which people have weaponry is a less dangerous society simply because the ones who would cause trouble would have no idea who is carrying and who isn't.

Carrying a firearm in a big truck is not against any law that doesn't also apply to the general population. However, if someone chooses to exercise that right, he or she must also be ready to accept the responsibility. It is far more likely to come back to your truck to find it broken into and tossed than to be the victim of a strongarm robbery that requires interpersonal contact. Humans are largely cowards. They will avoid controversy whenever they can. Therefore, crimes against property will be far more common. There is not one single piece of property in, on or around my truck worth my, or someone else's life. That's what insurance is for.

I don't care what you do. Just whatever it is, be ready to live with the ramifications. And don't aim my direction if I'm in a truck stop with you. Even if the criminal is between you and me. Please and thank you.

I could be wrong but this just might be where we got an idea that you carry a knife. Naaa... that's crazy talk.

It was an example.

Similar to saying, "If I was to sell crack on the corner in order to support my herion habit...."

Gawd, I hope nobody assumes I'm a herion addicted crack dealer now. :biglaugh:

There is one kewl thing about knives, though. I don't need to worry so much about one that missed its mark coming through my sleeper wall. Not that I'm paranoid about such things. I sleep well in truck stops. Unless somebody parks next to me with a pull cord lawnmower engine APU.

Mayberry?

No. Not even close.

I grew up living in some very rough neighborhoods. The projects in Philly were probably the worst, where my family lived for a short time in 1965. In all my travels in trucking I have yet to be caught up in anywhere as rough as that neighborhood. The view out my bedroom window was of the refineries to the West, and the projects were bordered by I-95 to the South and East, and I-76 to the North. The drug dealing, prostitution and crime was so bad that the city eventually shut it down and ran the losers off. The entire area was completely bulldozed about 6 years ago and new condominiums were built in place of the cesspool that had grown there.

The Peelot on the South side of Atlanta comes close, but I made it in and out without incident. I too have been in and out of the nation's worst ****holes, and like Injun points out, awareness of the situation and self confidence go a long way toward one's safety and security.

If any of this were true, you wouldnt have called threats non existant.
