IFTA and Profit Based Fueling Practices

That doesn't even begin to touch it! :coocoo:

I hope for his sake he likes being a company driver!

Fuel costs, let alone total "ignition on and/or vehicle rolling" costs are on the order of a good third of the total rate being paid. Your grasp of actual reality, and how inefficient you actually are, is mind boggling.

That day cab costs around 50 cents a mile if the wheels are spinning, ignoring extrapolated CostPM of ownership by pumpkin express, and ignoring additional costs because you have the shop at 25 an hour of tech wages do wiper blades, etc.

In other news, my most recent 42,000 lb 1900 mile load I just delivered 3 hours ago averaged 60mph per day of transit over 3 days of movement, in a now 63mph governed, power reduced truck, thanks to an ecm "upgrade"...

Schneider Intermodal is apparently rather happy with now inefficient I am.

Y'all just don't get that OTR and local don't operate the same way.

Y'all might sit on that same load and have 4 days to drive 3 days worth of miles. You can chill, cruise slow, fuel where it's least costly, hang out at the truck stop & shoot the shit, etc etc etc.

We're constantly dropping and hooking and on the move. One load done. Next. Two loads done. Half hour break/fuel. On to the third load. Fourth. 5th. Sixth. Drop that last one off at the rail and then we can go home for the day.

If a slightly more expensive fuel stop allows me to not have to say hey take that 6th load off me because I won't have time, they aren't gonna complain about my choice.

If I gotta keep dropping loads because I'm fueling at the absolute cheapest place no matter what, they're gonna look at me funny and ask why the hell I'm doing that.

Y'all seriously make too much of everything, especially when you're in a completely different line of business.

Not me. I was being sarcastic about the senseless pileon. "Supertrucker" isn't a complementary term that you'd want call yourself.

Reminds me of the headlights fiasco.
You're right!

Recap of this and the headlight fiasco: You know far more than combined experience of the board, and we don't have a clue what we're talking about. Maybe stop and thing that if everyone is piling on, it's because you refuse to acknowledge you might be mistaken?

NAH! Couldn't be THAT!

:cautious:

As an employee, you make every day decisions on whether or not you will be more or less profitable for your employer. The boss has nothing to do with it.

It's YOUR attitude and outlook.

If you think it's all about getting that one more load in......

And the rest can slide to the side.

Piss on it, I'm going home because you don't pay me to change wiper blades

I'll fuel where I want because I get rewards points here, but not there.,...

On and on and on.....

Oh......

But I got that one more load in.

I still DGAF.....

You owe me Mr bossman.....

To hell with you if my decision could save you $20 every time I fill up. I got my free fountain pop and hot dog.

Nah I think it's more like a refusal to let people do as they do.

A group isn't always right just because it's a group.

I still flash. People still thank me with their interrupts. We all keep moving. It ain't the end of the world.

My department doesn't give a crap where we fuel. They've said so. We all keep moving. It ain't the end of the world.

And yet, somehow, y'all know better than my own department heads and won't let it go.

Is saving money good? Well duh. I never did or will argue against that. But fuel pump savings isn't the end all be all for Schneider Intermodal in particular. If it was...I'll say it again...they would plan our fuel stops just like they do OTR.

They give us MPG targets to hit and we get bonuses for that on a quarterly basis. That's as far as it goes.

Y'all are simply wrong about it being a huge deal to fuel at the cheapest pre-tax pumps at Schneider Intermodal specifically.

AGAIN yes it's nice when we can do that. But if we can't...SO WHAT.

It happens a lot. A group isn't always right just because it's a group.

Except we're far from a homogeneous group! When a bunch of folks in your industry in all sorts of different segments all agree, most likely it's not them that's wrong!

Right let's just totally ignore the rest of my post...

But yeah this is absolutely ridiculous. Beyond stupid to argue over what my company expects of me.

Oh I know it exists. But mndriver doesn't seem to realize not all companies (or departments within) are squeezed so tight.

It's not a matter of being "squeezed tight," but extracting the maximum profit per dollar of revenue. We're all out here for the same reason - to make money. Ultimately, even company guys are obligated to make money for their owners.

You're exceeding the level of efficiency they desire from their employees. That is different from determining where to set the bar.

Y'all just don't get that OTR and local don't operate the same way.

You're doing one of the few jobs in trucking that doesn't benefit from maximizing efficiency. Gaining enough time to get another round in makes sense, while doing as much as you can to be efficient without sacrificing time.

OTOH, its a different game for us, since the more you squeeze under the bottom line, the more you put into your pocket. It does become a game of saving those pennies, because when you stack up enough of them it becomes significant - getting the extra trip doesn't mean squat if it boils down to sitting in a truck stop.

It's a different perspective - not supertruckerism.

Remember Driving Ziggy?
He once splashed in a few gallons before bedding down because the stop across town was a cent cheaper.
ONE. CENT.
o_O
His plan was to fuel for a cent cheaper the next morning...
except fuel went up a nickel overnight.
:D

I told him that he spent $2 just getting off the freeway trying to save $1.50.
:coocoo:

I took to calling him Penny for a while but he didn't like it much.
:D
I don't recall whether that was BT or AT (before Tazz or after Tazz).
;)

I did not know that was a delineation at the mother ship. But I vaguely recall that.

lol reminded me of star trek BORG

Alright WTF did y'all have to gang up on dchawk81 for when ironpony, the resident whipping boy, was right here the whole time? o_O
Because there is an effort to make every newbie feel like he is doing it wrong.
Look folks play games with IFTA that have to play them. OK fine. In a vast majority of trucking you fuel where you can regardless of a nickel off here or there.

All for making a company stronger and more profitable, so long as it is not at my expense, but to apply long distance OTR mundane bullshit to local intermodal work is pointless. But it makes them feel better when the can prove he is just a steering wheel holder and not a real boy ;)
