the trucking company going after the dead guy brought this to mind.
I'll start with a couple things, maybe others will have additional things to check that I haven't thought of, or just not thinking about right now.
Uninsured Motorists: does your insurance cover this?
Terrorism: Lots of things could be deemed as a terroristic act these days, are you covered?
And finally, one that most will never think about until it happens to them......
Unattended Cargo Theft: This one kind of sucks, but it is what it is, and you would be surprised if you are new to insuring commercial vehicles just how many companies don't cover this, or have a significant additional cost for this. When your wagon is loaded, it doesn't matter if you park at a truck stop and go home, park at the truck stop to go inside for a shower, doesn't matter what the case may be. If your load is stolen (whether it be the entire truck stolen, or just the load), good chance your insurance company doesn't cover it.
This is for real. You can go in to take a shower, come out to your truck being gone, and that load is very likely not going to be covered in a claim. The truck and trailer most likely will be, but not the cargo.
Your Homework: Go read your policy and see where you stand.
