How is freight looking for you or your company?

Company drivers....

Good Morning!

My hubby drives for one of the biggest companies in the US. Last week he had a miserable 1371 miles. This week he will have about 2200 miles. We have noticed that once he gets close 2000 he sits and waits for loads. When we sold our truck and switched over to company, he was staying out 2 to 3 weeks minimum. This will be the 3rd week in a row he has been home because they can get him to the Georgia Pacific plant with waste paper but for some reason there is never another load out until late Sunday or Monday.

The company is losing money supposedly, not paying bonuses, not matching 401....

Sucks, and to top it off, I'm not working. I am the primary care giver for our special needs granddaughter and her momma works.

Bea in GA

Not true Lunachic, I came here to deleiver to Publix warehouse took 4.5 hours to get it unloaded and had to pay $115.00 for them to unload their freight and now I am stuck in JAC. My company can not find me anything to haul out of this DUMP.

Im sorry to say that we are swamped. Our sales department must be doing something right because I've talked to other local airfreight company drivers and they say they are slow. Our owner has been complaining that we're getting too much overtime. I know that "The Trucker" paper stated in the current issue that the reefer sector had about a 6% increase this last quarter. People still have to eat. I know there are broker loads between Chicago and the east coast going pretty steadily and the pay per mile is good, from $2.50 - 3.50 per mile. Just have to find the right broker.

Celadon has kept me running pretty good so far... Lowest week so far was about 2200. Best week so far has been 3500. Its up and down from week to week, but I've only been home once in 2 months. The best loads for us are either coming from, or going into Mexico. Laredo is a familiar place for me. lol

I agree with you and you might need to go to Ga. to get loaded.
It's really bad here.
Gene's in jax. right now first load in 3 weeks, (flat) We have one coming up next Friday that running North is paying. And only booked it because we are able to load from there.
What r u pulling?

you get paid by the hour? you r so lucky.
We have not seen any loads from a broker paying that.

I worked for Werner Enterprises from April 2008 to April 2009. I was canned for my safety record. I had too many accidents (2 out of the 3 were my fault) and too many log violations. Anyway, I was with a friend of mine at a truck driving school a few weeks back, and I learned that Werner is trying to get rid of everyone from Michigan! I don't know if there are any Werner drivers here who can verify this. It is true though, that they're no longer sending recruiters to Michigan truck driving schools. The market here for truck driving jobs is pretty tough. I've been looking since April, and it's been a real cut-throat market here. As much as I'd hate to, I may have to leave my state!

I forgot to mention too, that my last 5 months with Werner, freight was really slow. I'd get decent hauls, but in between, I would sit for a day or two, sometimes three days!

Things in the chemical industry seem to be picking up as well. It's still rather sporadic, and seems to move from area to area, or at least with the company I drive for.

I'm still lucky if I get 2,000 miles a week. I stay out for about a month to six weeks at a time, and have also sat the weekends more often than not.

I've noticed that the truck stops are filling up again, but not sure if it's due to other drivers being laid over because freight being slow, or more trucks getting busy again.

I think because of the lack of freight, people were staying out longer, and that is part of the reason guys were laying over on weekends. That's what I'm currently doing for the 2nd week in a row, though I've been under a load both times.

I've put 28000 miles on since Memorial Day when my first load with these guys was a bunch of crap.

I'd say I'm pretty busy. In fact, I'd like more home time.

Finally going back out tomorrow. Still not in my truck, but there is a decent temporary truck for me to drive until my truck is fixed. Dispatch hooked me up with an entire weeks worth of work as well.

From the yard to Baytown,TX and back as fast as I can make the trip tomorrow, then pickup another trailer after a break, take it to Elwood, Il. Unload there, get tank washed and reload in Michigan the next morning, delivering in Victoria, TX on Monday morning (work a 34 in here as it will bring me back by the house over the weekend). After unloading in Victoria, back over to baytown to washout, hop over to channelview and reload and back to the yard. This 3400 miles is much needed after sitting with a broke truck for several days.

Let's keep this updated everybody :)

Staying busy here.
Managing at least 3000 miles per week, except for the week when I broke down. This past week was a simply run to Elwood Illinois and back, followed by a run to Aurora Nebrasks, and back. Did a 34 on Monday, left out this afternoon again for Elwood, Illinois. Deliver on Thursday morning, will be back to the yard Thursday night. Hoping to be able to stretch my legs a little with an Anaheim, California run when I get back, not sure if that will work out or not.

still bad here, few and cheap. Alot of you know by now that when you come into Fl. You sit and wait then take a cheap load out.
But that's ok. Thank-you after all the stores need stock..........

Well the container business is back up to speed...Jeff is working regular again...Only problem now is it's CHEAP....Fuel keeps going up and their not getting a DIME MORE...

Well the company that my husband is working for is having a hard time keeping loads going for my husbands route... they run specialty foods and actually had to scrounge for a few loads lately. The company is actually up for sale at the moment so we are hoping that it doesn't get any worse.
