How do you keep track of your business receipts and documents?

I do have some corrections to make to some of that info, due to the fact I place amounts in wrong field, some of my fsc looks like I got almost a buck a mile, that's wishful thinking, what really happen is the agent thru more money into the trip that I got 100% of and I placed that amount into the fsc colum

I am looking for some help, I have used the old fashion pen and paper method for the past 2 years with my business (not working out!) I would like to be referred to a program to purchase that other owner ops are finding to be good. I would like all my maintenance, truck, miles,fuel, tolls, accts recievable and payable, drivers, possibly logs too. Any suggestions

Sorry maybe that was not clear. I have just completed a broker course. I am looking to become an agent to do the admin side for drivers as well as help book their loads. I am just looking for pointers that can help me get into the business. I have on the education so I figure that if I started with owner operators or a company so that I can build up my skills in the field.

Ok, so you want to be a dispatcher for a fee finding loads for O/O's. Don't quit your day job for that. Not many use that service. You should go work as an independent agent for a broker working on commission. You questions are so basic you need some serious experience first.

Thanks that's the route I am looking to take now. The only thing most companies want you to have 2 years experience. Also I not working so any little bit will help. Thanks for the information.

Most brokers are independent and sit at home in front of their computer in their pajamas!!! Lol They get paid a small percentage of the load when they book a truck. If they actually found a new shipper they get a bigger percentage. If another agent books a truck and it's your shipper you get a small percentage. It's a pyramid type deal.

Most people like yourself start out sitting along side one of these independent agents. You will ride along with the agent knocking on doors of shippers trying to get on board until you know enough to get shippers yourself.

It's a real tough field to get into. Most are brought in by a friend who leads them by the hand.

In 2008 I think it was, I went around knocking on doors of shippers trying to get new westbound freight contracts for my company because at $500 a contract, I figured two contracts a week & I'd be better off than trucking.

I did that for exactly two weeks & said the hell with it. I got two contracts though. They still have one of them.

@shay here is what I have seen in this industry for what you are wanting to do, at least with the big companys, they do hire and train dispatchers but also they hire from with in, ie drivers that want to dispatch, my opionion is try to get a dispatching job, that will give you a feel for the industry as well as experience, then from there look for agencys that book freight. from what I have seen it is not an easy road, perhaps you can drive truck like the rest of us! your not working and at least if your driving that is work and that too will give you a very good look at the industry from a drivers perspective

Thanks for the advice, I don't have a cdl to drive and i am a full time student this is why i was looking for something that could be home based. but thanks for the tips
