Just like a log book you have to maximize your potential... Plant corn with beans that will use the corn stalk fer support like a grape arbor... When I was a kid we did not call them gardens, but truck patches... What neck of the woods are you from? You talk funny...LOLI liked Mustangs, swing set idea, too. I am jealous of your potatoes. I have never had much luck with them, and they are one of my favorites. I have always wanted to do the 3 sister thing but corn is such a space whore. Maybe one of these days.
The corn is so worth it. When the corn come in late summer early fall,There is nothing like it.I liked Mustangs, swing set idea, too. I am jealous of your potatoes. I love fresh corn, but I have never had any luck with it. Worms always get the best part no matter what I try, the few times I have had the space to grow it.The corn is so worth it. When the corn come in late summer early fall,There is nothing like it.
When they bring in the local,Fresh grown stuff everone grabs as much as they can.The rest of the year,The stuff they grow and import, People can take or leave that stuff.
I remember when I was a kid, Dad would drive down a country road and stop alongside a big cornfield, jump out of the car and fill up a big ole sack full of corn. Don't anyone though.Best corn you can get is from a field. Big full ears. Get it before it turns hard for grain.
So dirt in a pot is gonna get hotter than dirt in the earth? Well if thats the case water the potted dirt with cold water. I see no reason that you cant grow them in a pot as long as the pot will alow full root growth so they wont become root bound.

Many folks successfully grow maters in pots. I grew them in pots last year. They didn't do so great but it was because the pots were too small, and otherwise, I think they would have been fine. If extreme heat is a problem, I wonder if placing straw bales around the pots would help keep them cooler? Or maybe placing the pots in an area where they only get the minimum amount of required sunlight?Well he's not a perfessonal termater grower. The temperature of the roots was just his theory. But it makes sense. But he doesn't live in Arkysaw and didn't hang around all summer to personally oversee the way the plant was cared for. Maybe they didn't water it enough, or the pot wasn't big enough for the roots, ... who knows?

Hmmm, that might be an interesting experiment. I was thinking white pots. Not sure I would want to reflect more heat to the plant itself as sometimes plants will get all wilty looking during the hottest days, not because they need water but because they are just too darn hot.Maybe some kind of white-painted funnel thingy that the plant stalk grows up through that reflects sunlight back up at the plant (due to the conical shape) instead of letting the light heat up the pot? Maybe I'm just thinking too scientifically.

A simple solution would be just to dig a hole and place the pot in the ground.
Oh, I had forgotten about the rabbit problem. I was thinking it had something to do with the soil. I have always seen a lot of rabbits in my yard, but I have never had a problem with them getting into the maters. I just have a small homemade fence to keep the dogs out. They spend most of their time indoors though and only go out to take care of business.Umm.. why not just put the plant in the ground then?
The only reason I'm thinking of using pots is to keep the wabbits from eating the plants because there ain't no dog to chase them away any more. Well, there is a dog, but he's much too wild still to leave him outside unattended.

Ya'll just ain't thinking thru this. Shoot the bunnies then ya got fresh meat with the veggies....Umm.. why not just put the plant in the ground then?

I am thinking at this point ya just need to go to krogers to get your maters...
