First song?

then again for me it would have to depend on what it's being played off of and how the recording is mastered. i like em right there in front of me :)

listen to all along the watch tower backwards. it sounds like a poem
The Hendrix version or the shitty Bob Dylan version?

Bob Dylan actually wrote the song, along with Knocking on Heavens Door but they totally sucked until people who can actually sing re-did them.

Hendrix made watchtower good, and Eric Clapton made the other one good.

Not the Hendrix version?
The Hendrix Woodstock version is probably the most famous guitar version. But it's inaccurate and I find it disrespectful. Too much improvised weirdness.

Jimi did two versions of it. There's a movie called "Rainbow Bridge" and he did the soundtrack. On that album there's a brilliant multi-track version of the Star Spangled Banner that's totally badass due to his ability to manipulate & control the feedback you get from having the guitar too close to the speaker.

But it's also not an accurate representation of the song, so it's not something I'd crank out so loud every elderly veteran in a 5 mile radius can hear.

I had an old white haired guy with a VFW hat on bitch at me at a campground once because I played it really loud on the 4th of July on an electric guitar. He said the national anthem should not be played with "rock instruments"... Then like 30 seconds after he walked away, a younger guy who said he was active duty marine corps came up and asked me to play it again.

:dunno:

But the question isn't which song is our favorite, it's about what would be the first thing you'd play on that big-ass array of speakers that can be heard from over the horizon.. And as long as I'm forcing thousands of people to hear it, I'm gonna play a good, but accurate version of the national anthem.

Good Americans will like it, and democrats will hate it. It's absolutely the perfect song to force an entire county to listen to.

Several years ago on the 4th, some youngster at my 137 year-old neighbors house was trying to rock Hendrix' version on the front deck (directly across the highway from me) really loud.
He wasn't great, but he wasn't too bad.
I went out and gave him a thumbs up, and sat there through several renditions until he stopped.
He stood upband took a bow.
😄
Never happened again, but I always wonder whether he'll be back when the 4th starts getting close.

Hendrix Woodstock version is not great due to as @Duck pointed out, The feedback in the speakers.
There has to be a studio version out there? Maybe not because I just You Tubed Hendrix studio version of the Star Spangled Banner and all I got was live versions.

Look for the rainbow bridge version.

I have tried & failed to find it online.

My only copy is what I recorded directly from a vinyl record my dad inherited from his brother in 1987.
