Talked to a fairly local broker today, as I was trying to land a load that would get me to another load that he has on my radar for whenever I can get into the area.
Told him where I was at, and he tried to get me loaded with a load we seen on the loadboard because he is set up with that shipper. Turns out, the load no longer exists, even though 5 brokers have it listed and won't answer the phone, LOL.
Anyhow, this is a shipper he hasn't done anything with in 7 years because it's seasonal and he rarely has trucks in the area. He gave me the contact information, I made contact today, and got set up to access their loads and authorized to haul them.
It's not a huge thing. It's pumpkins, so it's seasonal. But it's in Dalhart, TX. A place that I can pretty easily get to, but never get out of this time of year. I mean, you can get out of here, but the rates are not desireable.
Booked my first load, and for a much higher rate than what a broker had it posted for. Brokers are way below market rate on these loads, this shipper is way above market rate. I can now get the loads for what the brokers are getting them for.
First "win" for me out here in this truck in a while now.
