Down to brass tacks now, ok game on MR. SAFETY man

I don’t even know where to look this up, to be honest

As far as I remember, and we’re going back 3-4 years now since I studied up on this junk...

My log book follows me from country to country. As far as I remember WHERE I LAY MY HEAD TO SLEEP is the countries HOS I follow.

So for instance. I came off a 36 hour reset on Sunday last. Saturday night was AT LEAST 10 hours off if not more, it was the weekend. Fired up the big horse and went to Michigan.

Sunday night bounced to Michigan and took 8 hours off.

Got it?

I’m going to end my day in CANADA which only needs 8 off.

IF I WANTED TO BOUNCE BACK TO THE USA THAT SAME DAY I’d be running illegal because the USA needs 10 straight off.

Guess what, I don’t care, I’m not bouncing back and fuck dispatch if they don’t tell me I’m bouncing back.

I’m logging legal and fuck dispatch and safety

Now I just gotta find the papers that says I know what I’m doing :confused-96:

It's not where you sleep. At any given time, you have to meet the HOS for whichever country you're in.

You only take 8 in Michigan? You better have enough left over from your 14 yesterday to get you to the border. Most of the ELDs can do the switch on the fly based on GPS, but knowing where you're at on hours after the switch is the problem. Unless somebody has come with one specifically for the cross border guys, that gives you a heads up before you cross over.

Yes and no.

If I have a new 70 and hours to run, I don’t need ten off to satisfy USA HOS if im not ending my day there.

I think

I used to work for a carrier some year back that was based in both America and Ontario..

To make stuff "simple" we'd meet near Detroit switch trailers and paperwork..

More recently same thing in Laredo Texas although that company actually had a termial so that was cross dock youd back in next to a Mexican truck and switch out freight then go in the office ladies would have all the paperwork ready..

Even on a Crossdock always hadda make sure I had those "Customs" papers

Here is where you went wrong.
In Canada you still need 10 hours off.

The Split Sleeper Berth provision means flexibility for a driver. It allows a driver to split the required 10 consecutive hour off-duty break into two shifts. One shift must be between 2 and 8 hours, and can be spent in the sleeper berth or off duty (or a combination of the two).

Just take 10s. It won't kill you. I would spend way more time in the US than Canada so I knew even if I slept here I would be bounced out pretty quick. Never did as much local as you get stuck with. Same thing if you run against a 34 in the US just go ahead and do the 36.

Canada is 8 consecutive as a minimum. The remaining two hours off duty can be split up into half hour chunks

Also then, as long as you had 8 consecutive off, the extra 2 hours off duty can be used in a deferral

Edit: If you do the 8 off as a minimum, usually during the day loading and unloading you can get in the extra two off needed to make up a comic book

That’s not the point. Safety wants to be a dick then safety better know how to run a comic book. I ain’t letting some pencil pusher that’s never trucked tell me how to scribble a comic book

Exactly. So Sunday night bounced to Michigan, took 8 off, delivered, reloaded and by 10:30 am was headed for home. Plenty of time on my 14 to get back to a good country.

I see what you’re saying. “Technically” while I was in the USA I should’ve had 10 off to satisfy the USA HOS, I keep thinking my day ends in Canada who gives a fuck

Jesus wept if we’re going to start trucking like we give a fuck about HOS I think I’m done. I don’t know how to truck legal. I’m so used to piling up log violations after log violations it’s not even funny

I hear ya. It's quite an adjustment. Lord knows you just about have to lie through every tooth you got to run steel out of most of those shit holes. I dunno how people are faring with an ELD. Therein lies the problem. You're not dealing with a comic book anymore; you're dealing with the god damned idiot box. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going away.

I should see if I can figure out how to run a deferral on this idiot box and see if “safety” will have a conniption

I saw how to on mine but I don't come close to needing it anymore. Which elog are you using?

:thefinger:
I caught on that steel mills can go **** themselves a while ago.
They gave me something called an “Omnitrac” not that long ago
It’s the glitchiest piece of shit I’ve ever tried to use.

Like a monkey throwing bananas and feces I just push buttons trying to make the fucking thing work

No instruction manual of course. Just a box with random buttons to push

Isn’t that what you run?

Yes sir. Never had a problem with it. Strange you're having glitches
