In 2005 I had a Roadway co-driver do that going down the west slope of Vail in Colorado. Rear trailer, right side brake drum was glowing red even after he woke me up and I put my shoes on. The heat deflated the tire.

There were no jake brakes on those trucks.

Sadly we get drivers heating up brakes on the pretty much flat 401. drivers not looking in their mirrors when the brakes are smoking and not even looking when they catch fire. It takes the police to pull them over and point to the wheels on fire.
