Do You Like The New 34 Hour Restart Rule?

FMCSA rules do not apply to intrastate carriers. Alaska drivers have a few different provisions, as do certain local drivers, under specific, special circumstances. The only time my guideline does not apply to interstate, property-carrying CMVs is under the emergency provision, which I have only ever seen used successfully once.

For the vast majority of truckers and for all steering wheel holders, take a break sometime after three hours but before eight hours of driving. It really is that simple.

As I like to go to Alaska and you can drive 13 or 15 hours depending on where you are in Alaska, these rules do apply to me. That's all I care about and it really is that simple.

just to say,i am very happy that i have retired and will not have to worry about this.i had to run at night in summer due to live loads. just to many rules.i still like the old days, due to the fact i am old.lol

Mike to tell you the truth I did for a couple of months then I remembered the reason I retired, momma and the picture I use as my avatar missed me every week end and could not wait till I returned home from Chicago which I went to every weekend. I thought about the great hourly pay I was getting and decided that it was not worth it if I had to run to Chicago every week end so now if I see a tractor trailer I look the other way LOL. I don't miss it at all now. 1991 to 2012 was long enought don't you think?:yahoo:

And what fun would that be? Let me guess, log books, road side spot checks, chicken coops, bad freight, low pay per mile, and the best is the ASS CLOWNS THAT ARE CALLED DISPATCHERS!!!! BTW I forgot to add the first tractor I drove was in 1970 in Nam, LOL I lost my trailer in the middle of HWY 1, and for the next 21 yrs I drove heavy trucks for about 17 yrs and that don't include M60A1 tanks. I would guess that I have driven trucks for 37 yrs sooooooooooo that long enough for this old country boy.

In the last week or so I've heard more bitching from truckers at the restaurant counter about having to stop for 30 min rule.
I bet odds are none even know about the 34 hour restart rules that state you can only have 1 in 168 hours, thats 7 days. And the hours start on the first day back from a 34 reset, not a calender day.
So if a person starts there day at 3 am they could not even start a reset until the 8th day because the 168th hour ends at 3am on the 7th day.
And some drivers have a hard time understanding how to do a recap, wait til they have to try and figure this out.

I predict by August or September you'll see CSA HOS Basic scores going thru the roof on a lot of carriers.

Dammit driver! You need a microwave and make your own meals. The only b.s. I hear these days is on the C.B. and NPR news. lol
Well a microwave would be nice at times but them and the built in fridge have all but ended the set down truck stop restaurant.
As for the CB about the only time I hear much on it is in the truck stop....once on the road no one hardly talks any more, but you get close to a truck stop and its non stop "shut the hell up stupid".

NPR? Really? The last time I "stumbled" on to a NPR station I wanted to jab a penile in my ear 45 seconds later.
