Everyday... which is why gubmint is so messed up along with the people that continually send those that possess NONE of it back. How often does the federal government do ANYTHING requiring common sense?
After 8 hours I'm starting to look for a place to stop for the day. It may be a hour or so down the road, but i am thinking about it.Only if you got to the dock within the first eight hours of going on duty.
I really dont see a problem with the 30 stop myself.
I am against this new rules, why does the gov have to waste our time as well as theres, don't they have more important things to deal with, like solving this countrys financial problems
I use the 34 in Cali. before headding back, so I can get back(no more the old way for me). That 30 min. break is easy to get at some of the LOVES/PILOTS.It's just a stupid change for the sake of change.
I can't understand how these idiots decided that having 2 34 hour rest periods in a week is a bad idea...Is there such a thing as too much rest?
The 30 minute break is pretty stupid as well, but it's easy enough to work around.
Having said all of that....It won't really have much if any effect on me personally.
I do not have a problem with the 30 min. break, just when we have to take it. Like i said before my day is about over then.I use the 34 in Cali. before headding back, so I can get back(no more the old way for me). That 30 min. break is easy to get at some of the LOVES/PILOTS.
WHERE? And why wasn't a linked provided here? One thing to keep in mind with all the hollering over the 30 minute thing.... it was in response to the driver input at all those FMCSA "meet and greets" held around the country that drivers were invited to attend and voice their opinion. The FMCSA said as much. The safety groups had little input on the 30 minute thing. That was 80% attributed to what the drivers were complaining about. The safety groups were targeting the 11 hr driving, the 34 reset, etc. So, this is another case of "be careful what you ask for". Didn't get to put in your 2 cents worth at those "meet and greets"? They also had online commenting available. Didn't do that either? Then shut up. You are as much of the problem as anyone. There were ample opportunities to input comments on this. I submitted several comments on the HOS issue. Those that couldn't take 5 minutes out of their "busy" schedule to post a comment are as much to blame as any safety group.
That's all good and fine Vance... using one is not the issue.Like I said, I use it to get back from Cali. and the 30 min. break...fuel lines or grocery shopping, stretch my legs and walk around whatever.
This should take care of the financial problems. Overnight drivers are screwed and everyone else will have to be off longer.I am against this new rules, why does the gov have to waste our time as well as theres, don't they have more important things to deal with, like solving this countrys financial problems
In the middle of the 11 is fine, i have a problem with it being after 8 hrs.DubbleD, Vance was addressing the 30-minute break within eight hours of driving, not the 34.
For those who are fussing about the 30-minute break, I personally think it's a good idea. It might prevent a few cases of DVT and urinary tract infections for those who think it's healthy to sit in the same position for 11 hours straight. Taking 30 minutes somewhere in the middle of your drive time should have only a very minimal effect...and it might be an encouragement for some of our lard-assed brothers and sisters to get up and move a little. Even if all they do is go to the refrigerator and make a sandwich.
I think it just says you can't log any period of driving more than 8 hours without having a 30 minute break. You can drive 5 hours, take 30 min, then drive the other 6 hours. In the middle of the 11 is fine, i have a problem with it being after 8 hrs.
He addressed both. I was commenting on his use of the 34. The 30 really doesn't bother me much, I just move my bike riding time up instead of after but there are a few drives that require every minute available.DubbleD, Vance was addressing the 30-minute break within eight hours of driving, not the 34.
