Do you find the quality of truck drivers on the road to be decreasing?

Do you find the quality of truck drivers on the road to be decreasing? Do you think that the driver shortage is leading more carriers to hire less than qualified or unsafe drivers to meet capacity restraints? Do you feel 3pls are a factor in choosing the cheapest rate and not necessarily vetting out safe carriers?
Drivers in general are decreasing in quality, including but not limited to truckers. Carriers are lowering their hiring standards, but it's their own fault. They caused the so-called driver shortage by running off all the good quality experienced drivers with their crap pay and harassment (yeah, I said it- most megas harass their drivers.) And I have no idea what threeples are, and don't care enough to Google it.

Have a great day! :)

Kinda dumb question...no offense
"duh" came to mind

I road tested a gal friday...Textbook to the letter pretrip, quoted me verbatim school, I wanted to barf...She did school, then did swift for 6 months in an automatic...Did she remember the 10-speed manual from school? 50% of it...Yup, she could upshift only...No downshifts at all
She tried once, she planted her left foot on the dash and yanked back on the shifter and pulled it from 5th to LOW i think...It was impressive

Im considering going on short term dis from all the bumpin and jarring i suffered while we located every fricken curb in the neighborhood...

I told the boss i can fix her and teach her how to drive right...she was a nice person..boss gonna offer her some simulator training for her shifting...

Next road test, another female, same experience....i failed her, boss offering her remedial shifting coarse in the simulator...

I dunno...Im a gearhead...I knew how to shift way before i actually snuk into a truck at age 9 and began jammin gears..The mechanics of it all was/is the fun part...the sucky part is operating amongst others..All the training should be for avoiding collisions, and crazy terrains and stuff....But no, we just gotta pass the DOT and were all good...

Our place has 400 drivers...so, our share of inexperience for sure...We had one new guy quit and go back to swift to make 3x less in an automatic!!! He couldnt shift smoothly, or get on the scale at the mine without hitting it, so he was on the hitlist

Now all the distractions too!!! Jeepers man....Even the cops!! Pass one lately? Usually they aint lookin at you, like in the old days...Now they are facebooking, and lookin up old girlfriends on thier computer, texting etc etc

I want airbags and a rollcage installed, dont know bout y;all

I want a full-stick charge where the airbag ought to be...
that ought to keep their heads out of their asses.

Dont think its a Fault of the Drivers. Put it rather to the Managers.
Years ago Drivers had to make small repairs. Today its not allowed to change Bulbs. So its easy getting in the Situation that a Truck Mechanic who is driving has to call a Hairdresser to change his Bulbs, because the barber got a 2 hour training and does now small repair at the Base :-)

That's a cop out dude. Try again.

Now see. We have 200 Trucks. Most dont bother to do a Pre-Trip check, and the few doing it now forced to do them in 2 Copies in Case a Officer pops in they cant show them blank Papers.
To go to the Vehicle Maintenance Unit to swap a faulty Bulb goes more and more uncommon. Either take a good Bulb from another Trailer,go out with Faulty Light or use Bulb from Reversing Light which is double as Strong as Rear light Bulb.
Changing a flat Tire on the drive Axle is a nogo,as it wastes Time the Company will not pay. Either do your Job in 10 Hour or you may work some Hour for free.
Will you blame the Driver?
I'm not.
The Fish starts smelling from Head first.

You can't buy a bulb, replace it, and submit a receipt for reimbursement ... the way the rest of the world does it? Or are you just too lazy?

Todays drivers are so unprepared. Why not get bulbs from the shop before heading out.If you're not sure how to replace it ask the mechanic.Minor things like that drivers should know how to do.A shop like TA would probably cost the company $50.00 to replace a lite. But changing tires hell no,i wouldn't do that.

When I started, I did just that... got a bag of stuff from the parts room. Showed a Swifty how to get a bulb out of his Cascadia headlight assembly the other day... its a twist lock affair, then you can get access to the bulb.

every lite assembly is different.I had a truck that needed to be taken apart with a star Allen wrech. The mechanic gave me a brand new wench.

Yeah we're not allowed to fix anything either. But sometimes we do anyway because f*ck waiting an hour or two on road service. When you're in a day cab, those minutes are even more precious.

It's funny that we aren't allowed to fix stuff but we can still submit receipts for reimbursement. Usually we don't even have time to hit up a store though...we gotta snag something from another trailer of ours.

What kind of reimbursements?
