DIABETES

You can now drive interstate with insulin. The FMCSA is issuing a waiver now. It takes 180 days to get, and there are certain rules for it. But it will allow you to drive if you can keep your A1c between 7 and 10 percent.

If you have protein or glucose in your urine, you are going to be sent to a doctor. You have to have clean urine or a waiver for insulin to get a signed physical.

If they find sugar and/or protein in your urine, you will have to go to a doctor to get checked for diabetes. This is usually done with an A1c test or an insulin resistance test.

I have type 2 diabetes, I have it and passed my physical for years, I take pills, my concern is can I fail if my sugar is to high? can they tell at my physical? I dont know if there is a level of pass or fail! I really never monitored my sugar before and just started to and dont know if I can fail.

You really need to go to Walmart and pick up a glucose meter. The Accuchek Aviva is always a good choice (especially when you find it on sale for less than $20). Start monitoring your sugar with it. Also you can buy test strips for urine testing too. Just ask the pharmacist for them. They are made by Bayer. That will tell you if your urine is clean or not. You dont want to be put on insulin if you can avoid it.

That's odd. I would think the bread and jelly would crank it up pretty high, right?

Diabetes is a weird disease. What bothers you might not bother me. White bread and mashed potatos are two very big no-no's. Try to eat REAL whole grain bread if you can. Its funny, bread and mashed potatos make my sugar go way up, but a plate of spagetti or lasagna with a salad doesnt seem to affect my sugar very much. My main problem is that I drink entirely too much coffee with a ton of sugar... not good LOL :coffee:

Splenda is your best friend if you are diabetic

What about Sweet N Low? I use that.

Sweet n Low, Equal and Splenda are all good if you like them. Im to the point that I like Splenda the best. It works great for things like cereal and Kool-aid. None of them taste right in coffee IMHO...

I would ask your family doctor for an HBa1c test. that will tell if you sugar averages are out of range or not.

This happened 3 years ago. I have had physicals done at another place 2 months later and nothing.

Ever hear of faulty test?

Besides, you should read that it was not sugar, but protein.
