Cutting the cord

you can pick your flavor you can do a cheap setup that will pay part of your bills to set up's that will pay all of your bills and then some. or then you have the really crazy setups for people that want to be sustaining and those can get pretty pricey depending on what you want it to do we even heat the pool with solar heated water. but the things i am talking about is pretty pricey

Here's the thing...
you mention 'pretty pricey' in a solar thread.

In the Prius thread you talk like $100k is a steal.

I'm guessing your solar was more than te beemer by at least half-again.

That's a butt-load of cash for most mere mortals,
and out of the question for those of us who drive to eat and aren't pimping SoCal real estate.

No offense intended and more power to you [see what I did there? ;)] but $100k for an automobile and $100k + for future value is out of the question for 99% of us.

WAIT!
THAT MAKES YOU A 1 percenter!
:stare1:

OCCUPY WALLSTREET @krelithous ' SHANTY!!!
:)

WHAT DO WE WANT?

T-bone STEAK!

WHEN DO WE WANT IT!??

I dunno.
He has a solar oven.
Normally it's about 6 minutes per side but I don't want to risk E coli...
I guess we want it whenever it's cooked to a standard that insures safe consumption.

Dammit!
Foiled again!
[foiled. get it? ;)]

yes i did mention pretty pricey. did i say all setups were pretty pricey no i didn't as there's affordable solutions to!!! it all depends on what someone wants the system for and what they want it to do;). and when i did mention pretty pricey i was going into geothermal wich is pretty pricey and other aspects of a system as the list goes on for what you want a system to do and what someones goals are;)..

sure for me a 100k for a prius is a steal since i can drive to where i need to go on 100% electric and i am learning how to take advatage of the hybrid system for getting high MPG'S though i have my moments and i whale on the gas and MPG'S are pitiful then:D low to mid 30's merging on the freeway:D then everyone want's to race you;):p:D:stare1:.. but most of the time i just cruise along and get the highest MPG'S as well as keeping the battery charged all of the time will help me get high MPG'S and i got mine for under 100k after the deal was done because they flooded the market and they can't get rid of em!! and yes i look at an automobile like an appliance a depricating asset because one day it will start nickle and diming me to death:stare1:. as long as it puts a smile on my face is all that matters and keeps me happy:thumbsup:

LOL on the solar oven part of that was an experiment when i got heavy into watching off grid videos. that was my dream for some strange reason. though off grid for me i could handle to a certain extent but not all of they way. oh and BTW i tossed it out id'e rather use a regular oven or the grill. yes i admit it i'm a custom to push button this push button that..

sure a 100k is alot of money for a vehicle. i made some bank in selling real estate and my investment properties and i am still making money off them.. the market out here is hot right now since we have people moving over here from other countrieso_O. people from other countries moving over here to protect there money. i remember years ago i sold a house to a couple from germany and they don't even live in it. they just use the house to stash there cash in that's it:confused:. yes i have made bank in real estate and being left a nice trust fund helps. but does it make me better than anyone else no i could loose everything tomorrow!!! do i associate with the rich yes most of them are cool but every so often you get a freaking snob and it drives me nuts more so the ones that like to waste your time as well as the ones that think there better than anyone else:stare1:.. sure i could go out and sell a house for 200 million and get a nice kickback on the commission. are those homes moving an agent would be lucky to sell two of those a year and that's pushing it. being a real estate agent isn't all fun and games. LOL i could write a book on that.

and no my solar array was more than the beemer :bootyshake:. though i blame my wife for the rest of this mess with the smart home crap everytime something breaks i never hear the end of it then i run and :hide:. then i piss her off even more and say well you wanted deal with it i warned that shit happens:stare1:. i'll never tell her why i'm really selling the house for wich is i perfer something simple. i would have been happy with a solar array some batteries and a generator but not all of this computer shit:bonk:. hell i cringe when ever she's looking at houses now:stare1::eek:

I have my 2014 Focus. From an economy & cost standpoint that's about as far as I go. Especially since I bought it used.

Interestingly, it's a nicer car than I expected it to be.

i'm hoping to get the MPG'S that everyone else is getting with this thing since mostly everyones getting around 150 MPG'S for something the size of a camary and not something the size of a scooter:rolleyes::D. but that's all gonna depend on battery usage and gas consumption

That'd be awesome. I get 40+ when I go easy but not hypermiler slow and stick the cruise on. It drops like a rock on my short (1.7 mile) commute to work though.

All in all, for a regular gas engine it isn't bad.

Plus, I only paid $14,XXX for it plus taxes and fees.

crusing down the freeway i get mid 60's to mid 70's going easy on the gas:rolleyes:. and depending on weather i use eco pro mode or comfort mode. and when i put it in sport mode and whale on the gas it's more like low to mid 30's merging on the freeway:eek:. had the car for almost a month and it's still over half a tank full. in eletric only mode it's your everyday front wheel drive car with the gas engine running it's a rear wheel drive car and in sport mode it's an all wheel drive car with the help of the battery for that kick in the pants to get you going.

as BLOOD said will a 100k prius pay back for itself. in my mind i would be kind of iffy about weather it would pay back for itself or not. along with the time of ownership i only plan to keep it for 2 years so that's gotta come into play also along with battery usage and fuel consumpstion. though if the tank is empty it would only cost me 30.00 to fill it since it has an 11 gallon tank
