Sounds good Alex.

Do you ever have borscht? I've been up to Grand Forks, BC, in Canada. A large Russian community there. Every restaurant serves borscht.

Very good.

Thank you.

We are preparing the borscht at home. We do not have time to cook borscht on the road. We have red and green borscht (hot), cold borscht. Russian borscht is not legally use :). The real Ukrainian borscht only. It's true. Many do not know how to cook Russian borscht. Russian national dish is a shchi.

P.S. English Wikipedia to be strange when writing about the dishes.

I am happy that AlexGramm made a contribution to the thread. I can't be the only one that is cooking on the road, Sans microwave. I figured there would be more people posting, But the thread has a had a lot of views and I suppose thats what counts on a thread like this.Thank you AlexGramm for sharing your recipe!

I dunny rigjockey I don't like to cook on the road, there is too much dirt and gravel on the pavement......I prefer a pan

with a lot of the truckstops getting rid of the resturants and just having fast food, the smartest healthiest way to go is cooking in your truck. rigjockey has posted many healthy meals he has cooked up. You just have to be able to get to a wallyworld at least once a week, have a cooking device, and have a fridge of some sort. I think I remember RickG posting that it was better to buy the appliances from an online source that supplies items for boats.

Idea's please on what sites may be the best to try. thank you

I have no problem cooking on the road. We do not have a refrigerator in the truck. We do not have the money for these devices.
We have a pot, pan, spoon, knife, primus stove. We take the potatoes, bacon, onions out of the home. Three or four dollars for the products in the store and you have dinner or lunch.

You are right! It is way cheaper to make your own meals.I am fortunate enough to have a cooler, I wish I had a fridge/freezer but everything in good time.I can pick up 2 striploins steak for 9-10 bucks,so around 5 dollars a peice. Chicken for around 7 dollars for 2 , so about 3.50 each. A can of potatoes about a buck.Frozen veggies. I forget what they cost. It wouldn,t matter I have always loved veggies. No one ever had to force me to eat them as kid.

So a striploin steak 5 bucks canned potatoes, 1 dollar. 6 dollars. You can't get that at a resturaunt for that much. No tip involved. No time lost. It takes as much time to make it as it does to get it served to you.

I just posted the things I cooked. You can also grab ready made bagged salad or sometimes I will just grab a ready made salad from the J. They keep it on the shelf below all the deep fried stuff and pizza,I'll grab a salad when I get my coffee or get fuel and you can use your reward points to pay for it.

For dessert, I get apples from the store or the over priced ones at the truck stop are still worth it. I have the Carmel/Caramel dip from the store.

Note the prices I mentioned are in Canajun dollars. Food is much cheaper in the U.S.

I made a lot of pasta dishes in my little lunchbox cooker. Just make sure to put water in the base of the cooker so you don't burn the crap out of the sauce. I would use an aluminum pan and put the pasta, meat, sauce, and veggies in a baking bag. I like the creamy alfredo sauce with penne, add some smoked turkey, broccoli, and mushrooms......whatta meal! If you use a marinara sauce you can buy precooked meatballs and put those in. All good meals with a slice of buttered bread!
