Two weeks ago, I bought one of those Burton 12v 20oz, water heaters. This thing works better than I thought it would. For 10 oz takes about 15-20 mins to bring the water to hot enough to make oatmeal, instant coffee ($3 at Wallyworld). It has paid for its self in coffee savings alone. I set it up for my second cup o coffee and about 35 mins before I stop, turn it on so it'll be ready to go. Also cup o noodles.

I was thinkin about gettin one of those. Coffee, and oatmeal is pretty much all I need it for. I stay at rest areas sometimes, and there isn't always a place nearby to get coffee at in the mornings. And when at a terminal, sometimes it would be nice to not have to go all the way up to the "drivers lounge" (lmao @ some of them) just to heat up water in the microwave.

That's excellent! I have a similar dealy, Not a Burton but the same idea.Hot water for Coffee, Tea, Oatmeal or what ever. Most times I get my coffee in the C-store at the truck stop becuase I can fill up my big trvel mug with my points BUT I like that when I am sitting at a shipper, I can fire it up and presto! coffee, tea.

Nothing like a good stick to your ribs bowl of oatmeal on a cold morning!

F.Y.I, But you probaby all ready know that you can get cups like the old flying J ones with lids at Wal-mart.

Nescafe has a new three in one coffee packet, It has the coffee the creamer and the sugar all in one packet. Just add the hot water.

I always grab extra creamers and STOK shots from truckstops, and currently have a nice lil selection on the truck. They never say anything about it at the cashier, and I don't hide them.
I use Folgers instant for now, but when I was starting out, I had a few instant Starbucks packets. Needless to say, those got used first. I need to get some more, they were good!
Also, I get the variety pack of instant oatmeals. Mmmm Mmmm Good!

I never thought of that. Those creamers are ok at room temp, For a bit. They could last longer in the cooler. Too bad my OTR days are numbered to around 14.

Sounds more like poaching or braising then boiling. Well with slight variations anyway.

Get brown rice or the wild rice mix. Better for you.

Try Quinoa, instead of rice.

It's nice to have hot water. You can cook rice fast. Rise steamed. Rice and fresh vegetables. Or stewed vegetables.

This fish is called fish soup. You have boiled fish and broth. It is good when winter.
