Are Freight Brokers Still Essential in the Age of AI and Digital Freight Platforms?

Artificial intelligence and digital freight platforms are transforming the logistics industry. Instant rate comparisons, automated load matching, and real-time shipment tracking are making freight management faster than ever. But does that mean freight brokers are becoming obsolete?

The reality is that logistics is about more than technology. When capacity is tight, shipments are delayed, or unexpected disruptions occur, businesses still rely on experienced freight brokers to negotiate rates, solve problems, build trusted carrier relationships, and keep freight moving.

AI can automate repetitive tasks and improve efficiency, but it can't fully replace human judgment, industry expertise, or the relationships that keep supply chains running smoothly.

What do you think? Will AI eventually replace freight brokers, or will it make them even more valuable by allowing them to focus on strategy and customer service? Share your opinion in the comments.

Were freight brokers nervous when they started testing automated driverless trucks? Or were they expecting to receive a bigger slice of the pie?

freight brokers are by and large little more than thieves, always have been, years ago I had a gig delivering rebuilt aircraft engines, the receiver went off on me when I was a few hours late because of an accident and told me when I pay 6 bucks a mile I expect my stuff to be on time and said I was ripping him off I wasn't in a good mood at the time and told him he was FOS I was only getting $2.25 a mile!!!
The broker called me late at night reading me the riot act it came out that he lost that customer I told him that is what happens when you screw over not only your customer but me,
landstar threatened to pull my contract if I even discussed pay with a customer again, there was a few brokers that I got to know personally that were pretty honest so I stopped using other brokers and stuck with them!!!
