A couple years ago, even before we were on e-logs, we had several trailers stolen. So they equipped every trailer with a much more accurate GPS tracking system than the ones in the trucks. There's a control panel the boss showed me, it puts a little trailer-shaped icon on a satellite image, showing it's location within like 3 feet or so. It even remembers it's last recorded direction of travel so it can rotate the rectangle icon at the same angle the trailer is parked.
I didn't know the system was THAT accurate, til one day when I was walking past his office & he was looking at his computer screen & laughing and he saw me walk past and yelled at me to come in & sit down. He explained how the trailer tracking works, and zoomed in on a trailer that happened to be parked at the strip joint at exit 93 on I-80 in Illinois.

The outfit I been talking to about pulling there trailers have GPS on them, Skytel, Skytrack, Skylab....something cant remember what the name of the system is now.
What I'm curious about are the cell phone GPS systems. My phone shows me within feet of where I am. Recently in my town there was a search for a felon. My buddy who is a cop says they can only get a position every 15 minutes and it's only accurate to within a general area???? He couldn't explain more. He didn't know the details why.

The phone knows where it's at by analyzing the ever-present signals from the cellular towers in the area.
The cops trying to find you, have to wait til your phone sends out a signal that can by analyzed. Maybe the phone sends out a little homing signal every 15 minutes to keep the network updated on your location so it knows which tower to route your incoming calls to??
It seems they ought to be able to send out a "ping" that tells your phone to reply with a little "blip" instantly though.
My company's trailer tracking systems operate that way. They'll update their location every 45 minutes, or they can pay a few bucks and have the service provider put it in "emergency mode" and it'll update every 15 minutes. Or they can pay even more bucks & have them "ping" the trailer and have it update immediately.

Time for an update , 1st off God is Good . I have my med card but it took a different route than I thought .
I need to set the stage a bit . I have had nothing to do but think about this up coming test for the last few weeks . Ringing in my ears was the lab tech telling me that you can't pass this test . he was taking about two weeks ago but I heard it all week long . I tried laying down early last night . Just flopped like a fish . might have slept 30 minutes .
Got back up for an hr then back down . Got back up and back down ............ Might have gotten three hrs total . Felt bad but headed out for the test . I'm thinking this is not good . how will I do this sitting for 40 minutes motionless and not fall asleep , 4 times .When I got to the hospital me and the tech cussed and discussed it for a bit . I was a little strung out when I got there so the tech wanted to know what I was going to do .
I stuck my hands in my pocket and felt the memory card , The one out of the back of the CPAP machine . Handed to the tech and he said let me download that info and see what it reads , maybe you can decide what you want to do . A second tech had at that point just gotten there and he started discussing the situation .
He was right , Told me " If you flunk this test ,Its on your record from then on " . That killed it right there .
I'm struggling with the fact that Kansas unemployment has messed up my money and it's a week behind and it feels like the rug has been yanked out . Just then the 1st guy said hey this download looks pretty good .
He had a full color chart in front of him that showed I was is 93 % compliance (needed 70%). Thought that's is odd but I did make one change in the way I was doing things .
I had talked to a guy that services CPAP machine and was telling him about being out of compliance . he told me that when I got up in the middle of the night to turn the machine off . If I didn't shut it down it shows an error code that's only reset by shutting off then restarting . I had been tossing the mask down and letting it run then just putting it back on and just going back to sleep .
The second tech got a half grin on his face . he said " I'm betting that if you take that to your doc and he might see the compliance numbers . That might be good enough for him "
I thanked him , Grabbed a hard copy and headed for the door . Called my boss and told him the deal . Boss then turned , Called that clinic . They asked him to email it . Got a call back in 20 minutes . " Send that guy up here to sign the back of the med card and hes good "
That sounded wonderful to me . Best news in weeks .
Boss told me that if I had worn my boots he would have put me to work right then . Told him tomorrow is quick enough I need a nap .
The only thing that I can say bad about the whole deal is the card is it's only good til October ... They dated it when I 1st went up there . So this deal went from late October to the 4th of march .

Have you ever done OTR with a co-driver?
After years of being a solo driver, and only "team" driving on < 11 hour trips just to basically hitch a ride back & forth between my house & my company's closest terminal which is over 500 miles away, they had me team drive from the Iowa yard to the Virginia yard to pick up a truck. (after driving my little pickup all the way to the Iowa yard thinking that the safety/recruiting/truck assignment dumbass had a truck for me there, after he said "yeah we have an open Kenworth, how soon can you be here")
That was real, actual TEAM driving because the driver they got to "chauffer" me lived in Virginia & by team-driving and dropping his trailer at the Virginia yard, he would get an extra day off at home because by driving while he was sleeping, I saved him 20 hours.
I hadn't slept in a moving truck in years, & had to take Unisom just to fall alseep.
But when I woke up & the truck was moving, I FREAKED THE **** OUT for about 10 seconds because the truck was going 65 mph down the road & I had completely forgotten that somebody else was in the truck. I thought somehow I'd gone to bed without parking first.View attachment 20229

Just retired from the US Air Force back in Sept 2012, 23 yrs as a heavy equipment mechanic. I've worked on and drove TTs around on bases and while deployed. I went through Roadmaster Drivers School in Jacksonville FL back in Oct 2012 and I revealed the fact that I had Sleep Apnea when we went through the physical (the question was actually on the screening questionnaire). I got my machine back in Jul 2012 and even had a current compliance letter from the sleep study office that I gave to the docs at the time of the physical. When I got my card it was only good for 3 months. Am I going to have to get a physical every three months just because of sleep apnea? Seems a big pain in the back side if you ask me.
On another note, I would have to agree that there are a few drivers out there that shouldn't be. Not sure exactly what some of these drivers a doing at the time but when they are weaving from the right lane into the left lane and then back over to the shoulder of the road I would have to say their attention definitely is NOT on the road. I just made a trip up to NC in mid March and thought I was going to die because a trucker was weaving from lane to lane and on the shoulder of the road. This person was even tailgating cars so close you could have stepped off the trunk of their cars onto his front bumper! He would push people out of his way then pull back into the right lane and slow down. When the same car passed he would get back into the left lane and push them again! Unfortunately for me I was not able to get the name of the company or his tags or I would have turned him in
