Mr. Aquila there states that trucks can be ran from LA to NY in two days, 48 hours flat, without ever exceeding 65 MPH. How is this possibly both physically and lawfully?
The driving distance from Los Angeles to New York City is 2,789 miles. The truck would have to average 58-59 MPH for the whole period of 48 hours to do this. If the truck had a big enough tank, it might not have to stop for fuel along the way. Certainly the same driver couldn't legally make this trip due to the HOS rules. Fresh drivers would have to be switched out of the truck along the trip as fresh horses were changed out along stage lines. There would be very little time for the drivers to stop to even change drivers.
What about traffic delays, weather delays, road closures, chicken coop stops?
No, I think an LA to NYC trp has to be at least five days with the same driver to be practical. Five days would be a rather tight schedule still with the log book to deal with.
Remember Smokey and the Bandit? Just making a round-trip beer run from Georgia to Texas and no speed governor and a fast Trans Am to decoy The Man was a challenge in 48 hours.
