4 changes to HOS

What say you
"FMCSA says that they drafted the Final Rule after consulting more than 8,000 public comments from industry stakeholders, law enforcement, safety groups, and drivers themselves."

Industry stakeholders: 4000
Law enforcement: 2000
Safety groups: 1890
Drivers: 11

After all they did say over 8000. Lol

But really.

"Many industry stakeholders had been hoping for a rule change that would allow drivers to “pause” the 14 hour clock, but the FMCSA said that they decided against this change after consulting public comment."

Bummer!

You didn't really expect those corporate sycophants to make changes drivers want, now did you?

It mostly looks like local drivers will get bent over, and done dry with this change.

Actually I like the new 30 min break rule. I travel a lot between WI & IL, so now I don't have to log off and I can essentially claim my break at the docks on duty.

Wait what!

You are totally eat up. Workin' on th' dock ain't no stinkin' break.

:toothpick:

There isn’t one single change that I can use to my benefit. I run multi stop 450-600 mile runs daily, I wish I could split my 30 min break up between stops like today when I wasn’t at any stop really long enough so I had to sit to get the full 30.

and I like how they quantify the amount of money it will save, LOL. That’s an outright lie.

You log on duty sitting at a dock? Yeah....fuck that.

So much simpler when I can switch back coming toward home.

No 30 min break required. If you do go off 30 or more it pauses the 14 and extends it that much (up to 2 hours)

13 driving 14 on duty 7days/70 hours instead of 8. 8 hours off for a fresh full clock (less you kept the door closed for 13 straight but who needs to do that?)

95 percent of the time coming out of NY or Michigan if I can get close enough to whichever bridge to switch back all my HOS problems or any worries of "making it" are solved.

I've said it for years adopt Canadian rules and it would solve most of the bullshit people are complaining about.

Coming home from Maine. First one for the border. Second one for fuel and a third stop for a 30 right before Toronto about 8pm to stretch my 14 and get my drive time back from the rest of the day.

Get home and sleep in my bed or spend an extra night in the truck and run Toronto in daylight? It's a no brainer.

Going out there you cannot make this run in one shot on American rules because "11 driving 10 off" so they give an extra day. This day wouldn't be possible on American rules as they are now.

I don't run nearly that hard every day but it's there if I need it.

This is the one Im lookin forward to...

  • The Agency will change the short-haul exception available to certain commercial drivers by lengthening the drivers’ maximum on‑duty period from 12 to 14 hours and extending the distance limit within which the driver may operate from 100 air miles to 150 air miles.

Thats gonna keep me off elogs for sure :biggrin-2:

Heard its supposed to start tomorrow
