I spread some Se7in dust on them because I saw tiny black bugs on the undersides of the leaves. Not sure if that's what's causing the damage, though. My experience with aphids (I call them plant fleas) is they prefer the tender, young leaves. The beans are setting fruit, but I'm still concerned with that leaf spotting because they need photosynthesis to make good beans. These are Roman style flat green beans.
Some of my more tropical peppers are starting off a bit slow and my potatoes are going absolutely nuts. I'll have to cage them in so they don't overwhelm the rest of the garden.
I have mulched around the roots of almost everything with chopped straw. Last couple of years, I used bark chips and the plants loved having their feet sheltered, but I understand bark tends to leach the nutrients from the soil...so I'm trying straw this year.
